How many quarts for 3.0?

I bought 6 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 and went to get an oil change for the first time since I bought this car. I also bought a filter and had them change it. They told me it took all 6 quarts and that I should add another 1/2 quart to get the level right (I looked at the stick with the guy).

I didn't think it would ever take that much, I figured 4-5 quarts tops from what I saw on the forums. Is 6 1/2 possible or did they bullshit me?

If you look in the manual, I believe it states 6.3 quarts, but if you change the filter it's closer to 7 full quarts to refill it.

Based on some of the numbers I saw on the forums but I guess those were owners of 1.8T's and the 3.0 takes more oil. Thanks a lot.

From what i recall.. 5.7 qts
06-05 6.8 qts

thats w/o the filter.

FWIW, the s4 is at ~10qts.

I usually do 6 w/ filter. Top off 1 qt. between a 5K interval.

Yeah, those were probably 1.8Ts you read about.
The 3.0 definately takes more oil than they do.

Audi tech told me 6.8 with filter.
Manual says 6.3 or 6.4 so I guess that is without changing filter.
This should be same for all 3.0 years.

i put 7 with filter and change every 3K with mobil 1. right now i am trying to find 0W-40, but no luck at walmart.

ya i buy 8 and put in 7 almost then i leave one in the car jsut incase,
