There are a lot of optins for you out there. It depends on how far you want to go with it.

My suggestion is that if you're not tracking the car than all you need to do is get replacement pads, stainless steel lines and new brake fluid.

If you're tracking the car, consider getting new rotors (slotted preferably) even maybe a big brake kit.

Most upgraded brake kits do not decrease stopping difference, but upgrade the ability to modulate braking and reduce brake fade.

If you're looking for an upgrade, there are tons of options:

    1) B5 S4 rotors, calipers & carriers.

    2) OEM rotors.

    3) ECS OEM Slotted (or crossdrilled & slotted) 2 piece floating rotor & B6 A4 3.0 carriers (use existing calipers).

    4) any BBK on the market.

Pads would then the be next piece to get. They vary on temperature wear, bite, noise, and amount of brake dust generated. Lots out there (like Mintex Red Box, EBC Greenstuff, Hawk HPS, etc.).

Replacing the brake fluid annually is also a good idea. There's been some huge discussions around Motul's 5.1 and RBF600 brake fluids. Synthetic can help, just make sure it will be compatible with components make of magnesium.

Finally, a set of stainless steel brake lines can improve pedal feel and reduce brake line expansion that can occur under higher temperatures (usually noticeable and helpful when on the track or highly agressive driving).

I decided to go with a mild upgrade to my 3.0. I replaced the front rotors with the ECS OEM 2 piece slotted floating rotors, Hawk HPS pads, and flushed the brake lines with Motul RBF600. I experience no brake failure on the track (like I did last year with 100% stock brake setup).

ECS is supposedly doing R&D to release the OEM 2 piece slotted floating rotors for the rear this fall. I'll probably get those and replace the lines with new SS lines and a fresh set of Hawk HPS pads.

This worked for me, but may not be enough for your needs (in that case, a Stoptech BBK may solve your issues). Best of luck!

There are a lot of brands to choose from. I tend to trust dedicated brake manufacturers.

For pads - I really like my Carbotech bobcats. Expensive, but low noise, low dust and great modulation and progressive feel. However, the initial bite is lacking, so it may not have that big grab that some pads have.

For lines - stoptech makes great lines. They're not only ss braided, but they have an outer plastic covering to help slow any wear and tear on the lines htemselves, which is important with very active cars.

    Fluid - Motul 5.1 I like a lot.

    Hope this helps some!

I found mine on craigslist.com randomly enough. Either look for someone with an S4 who has upgraded, or someone parting out a car. They are plentiful if you give it some time.
