I'm want the RS4 grill but I don't want the brushed surround. Is it possible to remove this and replace it with my stock chrome?

    TIA!!!

iirc theyre both different sizes. the stock chrome piece is bigger (wider) then the RS4 trim.

Yeah, the stock A4 trim is too fat. But you can swap the RS4 trim for the stock S4 grill trim which is chrome. That's what I did.

I believe that the older model A4 stock grille has the same size chrome trim...I could be wrong, but I have a recollection of this...I looked into doing this before but could not get a older grille at the time...

The 99.5+ or 2000 models came with the fatter chrome grille...

There is a difference in the stock A4 grille's...

But Tim you should paint the RS4 grille surround instead...

I don't know about painting it... I have a 2.8 so chrome looks good on the front. I've played in Photochop for many hours trying to make my car look good with tint, painted parts... there's just not much I can do to it without making it look bad (IMHO).

Thank you all for the replies, I'll get an RS4 grill and see if mine fits, since it's a 96 it might? If not, I'll get the S4 grill trim. I'm pretty sure it's going to remain chrome.

Thanks again everyone for your help!!!

Well, from what I recall, the stock grille was plastic crap with a flakey coating. The RS4 grille is plastic too, I got mine for about $70. It looks nice, but it's still plastic crap.

To be honest, the Kamei grille was worth the money. While it didn't match the lowers, it was still a solid piece of metal.

I painted my old still good looking '97 chrome trim and is on my RS4 grill.

Kamei grill may be a solid piece of metal but for me looks a lot worse than a lot cheaper OEM quality RS4 grill.

you will need to get a pre 99 grill......... i bought one of ebay for like $20 ... you can take the chrome off that grill and put it on the rs4 grill..... alternatively... the painted, colour-matched surround
    looks good
