Supersprint on a 96 2.8 (Pics)

I had a Supersprint exhaust ordered for my car and it came in today. It turned out they sent us one for a 1.8T, so it was sized wrong (we had to cut, weld, and clamp) it to the stock pipes. It all worked out and MY GOD do I like it. Here's a few photos of the exhaust, old and new. You can see where we had to cut the old one.

so they do have a kit for the 12v?

I guess (since they sent me a 1.8T resonator-back) they don't make one. But if you cut the slits longer on the exhaust and expand the stock pipe, you can wedge it in there pretty good.

It was $410.20 shipped (they charged us ground freight but we got 2-day Air). We technically ordered it 3 times, there were a couple of understandings over the phone.

Got it from BMP Design. They should have one that will fit right on a 30V, we had to do some custom fitting...

man, that looks really good!! How much was the one for the 96 2.8

Our price was $368 plus shipping (wholesale < work at dealership). The exhaust they sent us was for a 1.8T so it wasn't the right size to slip over the stock pipe. We had to expand the stock pipe and squeeze the magnum pipe into it (supposed to go around the stock pipe). We made it work though; after all the hassle of finagling it together and welding, it took us about 2 to 2.5 hours.

well thats not too bad, how loud is it?? wouldn't happen to have any sound clips would ya.....

It's about as loud as my intake, maybe a little louder (given I chopped the crap out of my airbox so it's basically a CAI.

I'll see if I can get a sound clip tomorrow. I still have a leak up front and a rattle in the right catalytic converter (but those will be all fixed on Monday, as well as removal of the resonator). It sounds really good.

was that the complete exhaust dp and muffler or just muffler?

muffler... supersprint doesnt make a cat-back (which i found out in ordering)

it was $400, wow seems a little steep. can't you buy a Remus muffler for like $300?

How big is the tip? That looks really nice on your car!!

The tips are probably 2.5 or 3 " in diameter a piece (rough estimate) but the pipes themselves are smaller by a bit.

There are slits on the end of the SS exhaust. We cut them a little longer so we could squeeze the exhaust into the stock pipe. It took a little grinding and grease as well.. No leaks back there though . We also clamped it to be sure.

Not sure, but i think that just replacing the muffler isnt going to change the deepness of the exhaust or sound or anything ,the only thing that will affect sound is diameter, shape through the bends and and basically all around airflow from the downpipe back , the muffler improves the looks only, IMO

the muffler changes the sound by a whole lot not just the piping. On my old Jetta, when I changed the muffler before going with a custom 3" all the way through, it made it sound really deap. But when i changed the piping it made it sound even better. As for performance, there is not much from just a muffler.

Well i had two high flow magnaflow cats put in today and the resonator removed, so it's loud.
