Well it seems as if I fried my ECU... I was putting in my stock chip back in because I'm switching back to stock for a bit until I get my GIAC chip. I hooked everything up, fired it up, but my car wouldn't start. I checked everything to make sure it was in the right position then tried again, and nothing. I put my GIAC chip back in, tried again, but no answer...

Did I fry my ECU? Or just my chips?

Thats odd... did you do a TBA?

Maybe it's completely out of whack.

click my sig, go to links/tech and go to chip and there is a link to doing a TBA. It takes minutes.

Thats fine... if you turn off your climate control it will turn off and you can hear the TB whine. Just wait a few minutes then start the car and wait a few minutes again. Also, check to make sure you didn't put the chip in backwards.. DOH!!!

Yeah I checked, the chip is in the right place. I don't think it's the climate control fan, it's the fan up in front by the engine bay, it's going crazy when I turn it into ignition.

either way it won't take longer than 3 minutes, so just let it sit for that long and you should be fine. Let us know if the TBA works.

If your fan comes on while you are transferring a file to your ECU, it can/will freeze up. You should always unplug the fan. That's what did it. Only the Dealer can fix it. Sorry about that.

It could be a few things

    The chip is in backwards

    the chip is blank

A leg is bent on the chip

the stand off on the circut board counld not be making contact

The fans come on when the ECU can not detect a chip as a saftey feature

Hows your connections? You know how the connectors to the ecu clamp in? YOu don't just put them on, you have to press the sides in to clamp it. Know what I mean? It's alongshot that someone doesn't do this right, but hey, you never know.

Theres a "L" shape that connects my chip to the circuit board. I think I might have bent on of the legs on the chip when I was trying to connect the bracket that hold on the in place back into the board. Does this mean my chip is gone? Or does it mean my ECU is fried? Damn, I'm running into so much bad luck with my car. First my intake hose, and now this. Despite my bad luck, I appreciate all the help guys!

I ended up towing it to my local dealer....then my tuner was notified via me. Dealer said it couldnt communicate with the ecu. Local tuner grabbed the box and took it back. Told me "Chip was bad", gave me a new box with chip.

So the chip screwed your ECU up? And you ended up having it replaced? Or was it just the chip that went bad?

Yeah I keep cranking it and it wouldn't start. It happened after I tried to install my stock chip back into the ECU. I think it's the chip and not the ECU, at least I hope not. So you ended up getting a brand new ECU? What happened?

This happened to me on my old car.. I accidently broke one of the pins on the giac board itself.. So no matter what chip you'd put in, it wouldnt work.

Took about 5 min of soldering to fix it
