    Avant subwoofer?

I have a 98 avant 2.8 and aparently it has a small sub in the left wall of the trunk. I was wondering how I could get to it (ie. getting behind the carpeting) and if a bigger one can be accomidated back there.

Any info or suggestions would help. Thanx

You have to remove the lower half of the rear panel (couple screws, remove left rear seat, remove bolt, and remove side bolster of rear seat) not too bad about .5-1 worth of work. 8" sub in a plastic enclosure. I removed the sub box and the changer/phone brain box then fiber glassed a box into the rear panel. 10" is about as big as you can go and still hid it behind the door. Hope this helps.

You only need to remove the lower part of the rear seat. Remove the latch bolt, and the side bolster. There's a phillips screw hidden behind the top of it. remove the screw in the middle of the panel and the one towards the back. The trim on the rear hatch sill also needs to be removed along with the cargo net retaining hook. Then you just need to pull really hard. Most likely you'll break some of the plastic because it's weaker than the metal retaining clips.
There's enough room for an 8 maybe a 10 depending on the driver. It's really tiny back there. You will have to fiberglass something or have it done. You also have to lose the factory changer.
