    Engine Start-up Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi this is my first post on Audizine! I just got a 2007 2.0T 3 weeks ago. When I went to pick it up, one of the people that works at the dealership told me that when I start the car up I have to wait for the RPM to Drop below 1k to start driving. So thats what I have been doing for 3 weeks, waiting about 30-40 secs every time I start up my car. Has anyone else heard of this, or doing this?
    Thanks A Lot!

    Re: Engine Start-up Question

You got an auto? 30-40 seconds wait time in above-freezing weather sounds ridiculus to me but some people think it's a good idea. *shrug*

As long as you aren't launching from your parking spot to 60 your car should have time to "warm up" as you head out onto the main roads.

    Re: Engine Start-up Question

ur car will warm up while ur driving it. its actually better for your car to warm up while it drives because it warms up faster. and the faster it warms up, the better. just dont be driving too aggressively until it warms up though.

    Re: Engine Start-up Question

Page 131 of our owners manual says "To avoid unnecessary engine wear and to reduce exhaust emissions, do not let your vehicle stand and warm up. Be ready to drive off immediately after starting your engine."

I dont know about your dealership but the salespeople at mine didn't know shit. I'd trust the manual more than a salesperson regardless.

I drive off probably 5 seconds after i start my car.

Thats what the guy at the dealer told me, "to let the turbo warm up". He told me that after my car breaks in i wont have to wait as much, and I'm at 1500 miles and still waiting 30 sec for the rpm to go below 1k. But the Owners manual says to take off immediately. I'm just confused...

do wha u want to do. i always wait til my RPM drops below 1k. i've been doin it since i bought my car in december of 06. it doesnt hurt to wait kus there's no load on tha engine and gives tha turbo to warm up, esp during a cold start.

The turbo is mainly there for better engine performance during high speeds/acceleration. Just drive slow until it's warm and you'll be all good.

    Re: Engine Start-up Question

Like the manual says, drive off immediately. BUT don't floor the car during the warm up portion of your drive, wait until your car has hit the operating temp, (when the needle is in the middle of the temp guage)...... and to my knowledge you do not need to sit idle in your driveway after you come home, just don't gun it the last few miles before you get home.

In the end it is your car, drive how you want, all of us are just giving advice, you can choose to listen or not but allot of the people on here have some good knowledge, and some of it is first hand experiences.
