Heading out right now to pick up some Motul Oil. What viscosity should I get for my first oil change? 0w40 or something different?

    Thanks

i went to the dealer for 5k service not too long ago and they told me that 04s come with synthetic and that i dont need to worry about bringing any of my own stuff into the service.

i dunno... i had a case of mobil synthetic in my trunk and they just said i should probably return it...

When I got my car , the dealer (Miramar Audi, San DIego) told me that in the scheduled maintenance they'll put only conventional motor oil so if you want to have synthetic oil, you must mention it beforehand and pay extra ~$29.00 for that.

Should they put synthetic oil as a dafault??

    I have 2004 A4.

well i went to downtown audi...and i brought a case of synth and they said that the 04s come from the factory with synth. i forget whether it was all 04s or just 04.5 mine is an 04.5 and he said that it comes with 04.5 already.

i dont know if that means that all 04s come with synth...

well...regardless he told me they put synth for my 5k checkup...

how can i tell whether its regular or synth...

i doubt theyd lie to me... but then again you never know...

I wonder about the same thing. I want to check it. But I have to admit, the car drives a lot smoother after the oil change. Shifts are smoother and the engine seems a little preppier. Maybe just my imagination though.

In the owner's manual it says that the car is equipped with synthetic oil when it leaves the factory...

So, when you get your oil changed, does the dealer use synth or blend or conventional oil. And if you request synthetic, how can you be sure they just didn't charge you money to put in conventional oil. I guess the only way you would know is if you did it yourself. Even if you brought in your own oil, how can you be sure?

Didn't we already discuss this? You want the 8100 Ester E-tech 0W-40.

Just BYOO and make sure they return any unused portion. I seriously doubt that they would try and decieve you.

Iwas told that my service dept uses castrol synthetic. Unscheduled changes are $120.00. Seems arbitrary to me. Is it that hard to change the oil?

since the 2002 MY didn't come with synthetic oil, I doubt they put it in now.

I bring 4 quarts of 0w40 for my 10k intervals and a M1 filter. I check to make sure they used the filter . . . and hope the oil went in too.

not to thread jack, but MARK (or any one else) do you have the M1 filter number or a link to it and is it a replacement for the larger filters on the 04´s?. Thanks.

If the warranty covers oil changes, why is the scheduled maintenace ever 10,000 miles??? I know synthetic oil should last a little longer than conventional, but damn that is a long time. I have put around 5,000 miles since my last change, so I'm not scheduled for maintenance for another 5,000. Will they change it every 5,000 or will it cost you? The sales guy told me it only needs to be changed every 10,000, but I thought that was ridiculous. I want to get it changed, preferebly under warranty, but I want to get it done now. Am I going to have to do it myself?
