    Dealer and chip question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so i've concluded i have a vacuum leak but do not have the know how to fix this. i'd like to take it to my dealer. i've got a GIAC chip and a boost gauge. if it take it to the dealer, A) should i disconnect the boost gauge so they can't see my hihger boost and B)is this the kinda repair that would warrant a test drive by the mechanics? bc if so they're sure as hell gonna feel my chip. what can/should i do?

well, before you take it in, it might be worth a few minutes to pop the hood and inspect some of the vacuum lines to see if any are cracked...

there was a schematic floating around with all of them on there, and certain ones are more prone to failing than others (maybe because of location?).

I'll try to find it for you.

    EDIT: Here's the diagram...

ok, for 1, even without a boost gauge it is blatantly obvious when you drive a chipped car... keep in mind these are audi techs, they drive different audis all day, they know what they are doing.. 2nd... that all depends on your dealer.. i have a chip and a boost gauge in my car, and my tech actually commented that he likes how it feels when we had to go on a test run... but thats my dealer, not yours... so unless you have a spare ecu to swap out, dont worry about it... you still have a warranty right? i didnt think you had one. if you dont have a warranty.. than who cares, it wouldnt make a difference because you would be paying for the line anyway.

honestly, i think it would be better if you just bought a length of vacuum hose and did it yourself, its not that difficult, and i know that for me, i'll do almost anything to keep from making an appt. and having to take my car in and wait for it even if its under warranty.

ok, my problem with doing the fix myself is that, even tho i susopect which hose it is, i can only find where one end goes. i don't know where the other end connects and can't igure out how to see it without taking the frotn end off, whcih frankly isn't gonna happen. so, unless i can find someone who wants to help me, i'm gonna take it to my dealer bc my car's still under warranty. the other question is if i can swap in an ECU fro ma 2001 1.8T(my buddy's car or a 2000 1.8T TIP(other buddy's bro's car)? both are different from mine but could either work?

If the ECU#'s where the same then yes you could switch. Doing a swap from a TIP would require chainging the sifcoding in the ECU. Yes they are gonna test drive it.

Like CH boxes are interchangeable and stuff. But for sure know that they are gonna take it out for a spin. Hell I took mine in for nothing and I got to hear how my exhaust sounded at WOT while the dick took my car down the street.

haha, so, when they do drive it, are they gonna throw a fit that i chipped my car under warranty, and will they make me pay for the repairs citing that my chip caused the damage? which it most likely did

They can see your chipped if they hook up the VAG IIRC.

Just have someone who's in the area come out and help you look at it, sure beats driving an hour to get help rather then chancing losing your warrenty.
