i have an 04.5 a4 cvt fronttrak with GIAC as well. sometimes the car feels great and othertimes it just SUCKS.
i think it has to do with what kind of gas you have in the tank too...
ive tried:
ARCO - OMG.. its SOO HORRIBLE!!!
SHELL - results simliar to ARCO
MOBIL - ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!! car felt so much more alive...
76 - generally pretty good
i never knew how much the BRAND of gas mattered until i got a my car chipped. i think the quality of the gas really affects the engine since my car is both TURBO'd AND CHIPPED...
but definitely keep me posted on what garrett says about the CVT and the CHIP
76 is the ONLY gas in CA that no longer adds MTBE, which is will it will run the best for any car. All other companies still use MTBE, as well as other additives to mask the true octane numbers.
MTBE is an oxygenate which is added to gasoline, that makes the combustion burn HOTTER (something you DO NOT want), so that the tailpipe will emit only H2O and CO2, and none of that other polluting stuff that comes out. This ultimately causes our cars (especially turbo'd cars) to run like SHIT, and make the mpg's goto SHIT as well. This was part of CA's "Clean Air" act (thank Grey Davis), where all refinereries must comply and "reformulate" their gas. However, a few years ago, they found small traces of MTBE inside the water supply at Lake Tahoe--for MTBE can pollute a water supply with just a few drops, and is a bigger pollution "threat". The government of the "People's Republic of California" then got a rude wakeup call, and repassed the law, mandating all refinereies to REMOVE MTBE from their gasolines...76 was the first to jump on this and remove their MTBE.
Do a search on "MTBE" on Yahoo, and see all the results you get on "Water Supply MTBE Cleanup"...
There is NO benefits of MTBE, other than it generally bumps up our gas prices $0.10-0.15 per gallon in general for that shit. MTBE (Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether) when used PROPERLY, in general will act as a knock-inhibitor (or "octane booster"), however, due to it's costs, many companies tend to "water down" their original mixture, then use the MTBE to bump up and mask the true octane. (Example: watered down 87 octane + MTBE = "91" octane).
Long story short.... STAY THE F*CK AWAY FROM MTBE! :)
And all that "Techron", "V-Power" and other shit, all contributes to the degradation of the quality of gasoline claiming to "clean" your injectors. If you used good gas to begin w/, there should be nothing to clean in the first place. :)
