A little service reminder... just screwed me over

thought i might look out for those who dont already know. if you have a black coolant temp sensor or a blue one you should switch to the green ones as the black and blue are faulty and can potentially cause many issues.... i just order mine from vw parts for like 3 bucks its like 6 total with the gasket. if you havent done this its time to do so....

    install #1:http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng54.shtml (V6)

    install#2:http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng47.shtml (1.8t)

just a little preventive maintenance... it will take the V6 boys a little longer but its all good. enjoy!

Any particular model years this effects?

My temps run high when I shut down the car and start it up again. Say I drive around when it was cold and it got warm (to the middle part), it'll stay there throughout the drive, but when i shut the car off, and turn it back on, it'll shoot up halfway between the middle mark and the H mark. But after somemore constant driving, the needle will go back down and stay back in the middle. You think this is faulty or is my coolant just running hot(ter)?

I plan on flushing the system and refilling it up again with g12 comes next oil change. I bought one container last time and it wasnt enough to fill it up the the minimum line. I just added water. I think thats my problem.

my understanding is that basically all of the blue and black sensors are faulty.. and fail... they no longer make the black ones and i dont think they make the blue ones either but not sure about that

I've noticed that my temp gauge doesn't always work. I will be changing my sensor, but I thought you can't use the green one if you currently have the blue or black one. That's just what I've heard. Is this true? If it will work, do I need to do any modifications to it for it to work?

no no you are supposed to change to the green one if you have either the black or the blue one. the black iirc comes on dbw vehicles while the blue came on ndbw.... not sure about that just what i have seen thus far.

If you do this and this takes care of any of your ailments be sure to post your findings. i know this is not a new thing but there are alot of people on there that havent been on the audi forums for awhile so i figured i would revive the topic.

I changed my temp sensor cause my temp gauge was running crazy, up and down, that problem is fixed, only thing i noticed, when i shut the car off after a long drive and start back up, the temp is higher than middle, start to drive again and it goes back to center. any other sensors i need to change?

did you change both of them on your car? (might seem like a dumb question) and you are using the green one?

No. The green one wont work on cars with the blue one, I know for a fact. they have two different connections. If you are having a problem with yours, the car should throw a code and let you know.

on the 2.8, they are symetrical in location, one on the passenger side and one on the driver side in pretty much the same loaction in reference to the cylinder banks. they are a bit hidden and buried, but they are there.

I'm pretty sure that the blue and green have two different connectors, so they would not be interchangeable.

I think Blue is for AEB engines, and the Green is for ATW. I'm not 100% on the ATWs, but I recall reading that.

I have a 97, it uses the blue one.

Just a heads up, I have seen them both side by side, and they are not the same, one wont fit in the other's slot.

The only exception is the '96, I tried the green one and it was a no go. The '96 will only take the stupid black one
