Hey everyone, I'm a new A4 owner and wanted to know if anyone has had a problem with radio static when they turn on the REAR DEFROST? If so how did you fix it? Also where is the antenna located? I have a 98.5 A4 with the Bose system. I think its the concert I head unit. Thanks for your help.

    Re: Radio Static problem

    Bringing this back........

I changed my radio from concert to Pioneer p7700mp when I bought the car. Ever since I changed the radio I get static when I turn on my defrost. I bought the amplified antenna adaptor from Crutchfield, but it won't fit my radio as the 7700 already has a coax out from the deck. I assume this means the antenna feed is already amplified.

How can I get the static to stop? Any ideas?

    Re: Radio Static problem

Alright....so here's what I found. When I took out my deck to attempt to fix this, I thought about grounding the antenna onto a better part of the car. I took the wire and started touching it to different parts of the radio and different parts of metal. I was curious to see what would happen when I touched the neg. of the antenna connection to the corresponding spot on the radio antenna connection, it was perfect!

Best I can figure is the connection between the stock antenna and the connector on the deck is weak. I'm going to try to find a connector to make this easier, but short of that I'm going to solder a wire from the neg. of the stock antenna to the neg. of the HU antenna.

    Problem solved!

well......so much for that idea. Tried to solder the wires into place and it didn't even make a difference. Now I'm at a loss again. Stupid Audi antenna

    Re: Radio Static problem

I get horrible reception in my car as well. I have the amplifier from crutchfield and it helps a little, but still can't get reception unless i'm less than 30 miles from the broadcast antenna. Luckily I rarely listen to the radio, Mostly XM and the iPod for me.

    Re: Radio Static problem

my reception is awesome on fm. I have no concerns at all. However, I don't get AM, but really, who cares.....it's just now that it's getting cold and we have frost and shit, I want to be able to hear my radio when my defrost is on....not static.

this makes me wonder whether its a ground connection from the glass to the body, or is it just the wires are getting old.....could be both I guess....
