Question stalled on the the freeway!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so i was driving home from school and was on the freeway at about ~70 MPH

when i hear this THUNK! thought i went over a sped bump or something but there was nothing.... so i looked in my rear view and nothing had fallen out (thank god)...

then noticed i started to slow down... even though i was pressing on the gas pedal. looked at my RPM and was sitting at 0... lost power steering and had to pull over to the shoulder and restart the car...

    from then, everything seems ok...

mind you, i have an automatic... so maybe its something wrong with my tranny?

    i'd appreciate any info help.

    thanks

    peace

why didnt you just put it in Neutral while you were onthe freeway and start it back up? Do you drive with your hand on the shifter caues if you accidently knocked it into reverse that would kill it.

That same thing happened to my friend. He had a camery at the time. It was wierd we were also on the freeway and for no reason the car just died, Never happened again but it was odd. I would say if it happens again try and see what wrong, but until then don't worry about it

Was it raining there? Sounds like coilpack trouble. Don't they crack or something? Then they arc in the wet. Kills the motor sometimes I hear. Sounds familiar.

I have the same car and havent incountered the problem(knock on wood). Do an aftermarket radio and or powered subwoofer? You could have caused a power surge.

i know it's not the same model, but that has happened to me once or twice in my old 90S, but at lower speeds. these cars do not have perfect electrical systems and they often fail due to the complexity and sophistication that they are designed under (read: way before their time).

i never found out the problem but i can only blame it on the electrical system. oh, and it was a manual.

your car was indeed just upset with you - buy her some new rims and maybe even a big turbo.... that should keep her happy for a while.

Are you chipped? The socket may have been unseated for that moment.
