Take a look at your dash. The beltline trim by the glove box will say Quattro if you have it.

Maybe with a mirror on a stick? You could look for a rear diff.

    Otherwise, no.

Look up under the rear of the car. You'll see a rear diff in the center and an axle connected to the rear diff to each rear wheel.

Of course, if you're test driving it, you could ask the owner or salesman...

Badges won't automatically tell you if it's quattro or not. My car is a quattro, and there's only one quattro badge on the whole car. It's on the interior trim - on the dash above the glove compartment.

BTW, your question is just a little vague. If you would tell us what you're specifically wanting to know, it would help. Are you shopping for quattro, do you just want to recognize quattros on the road, etc?

    HTH,
    Mike

another way to tell is by the exhaust. if the tips are short and close to the muffler, it's quattro. fwd cars have tips that stretch away from the muffler farther

As far as body or wheels go - no, there are no tell-tale signs it's quattro or not.

Sorry if I came off the wrong way. I didn't mean anything by it. I was just curious what you were really asking...

No real body modifications that you can really see other than the exhaust. The only thing that are different inside and out are the badges. Everything else is underneath.

If you're getting a 2.8 FWD, why not get a 1.8 Quattro? The price range should be pretty close, no?

If there is snow on the ground and the car is staying in one place and spinning in circles, AWD. Same, snow, and the cars front end is slippin and sliding, FWD.

Seriously, if stock grill AWD's have quattro badge and also on the rear below the 1.8T/2.8/30.0

yeah the salt tears up the cars really badly... and i live near cleveland so im in one of like the only 2 spots in the world that get really bad lake effect snow.

but still even if the streets are covered with snow, packed down snow, you can still see people going around in rwd bimmers and such and getting around just fine, ive handled fwd in the snow all the time, its easy just takes some practice and patience
