goin with custom magnaflow exhaust...questions..

here are my plans..

get ecode testpipe

custom downpipe 2.5"

3" piping w/o resonators

2.5" piping to the mufflers

and magnaflow muffler #14851

BUT my question is.. the specs on the 14851 are:
2.25" Inlet, 4" Diam. Tip
2.5" Internal Race Core
Double Wall, Angle Cut
7" Tip Length
14" Muffler Body Length

if the inlet is 2.25 on the muffler is that bad? or should i find a magnalflow muffler that has a 2.5 inlet? i found one that has a 3" inlet.. and ive also thought about 3" piping all the way through. might be too loud but EH WHO CARES. hahah. dunno if ill lose too much low end torque though.

anyways bottom line.. would it be preferable to use the muffler with a 2.25 inlet or a 3" inlet for 2.5 piping? or would it be better to go straight 3" piping all the way? or 2.25 piping up to the mufflers?

3" anything is going to suck unless you have a stg 3 kit or something.. All you need is 2.5" piping..

Mines all 2.5, and then goes down to 2.25 right at the end into the mufflers..

ok cool beans.. do u think the muffler shop will do mandrel bends for me? or will that cost too much? and whats the difference between mandrel n crush bends anyways? is there much benefit to mandrel on street cars?

also do u think they'll be able to make me a custom DP? if not do u know where i can pick up only a DP?


also one last thing..the thermal exhaust is 3" mid section piping up to the resonators which splits into 2.25 pipng.. thats where i got the idea to go with 3" midpipe...do u still think its a bad idea john?

A 3" midpipe would be fine, it won't be crazy loud and you'll get more performance as well. I'd just get a thermal street or race version from David at Ecode. They don't have one for the FWD yet so Chuck at Thermal made me a custom setup. He used the S4 mufflers, looks awesome sounds great, I'm gonna do a writeup very soon.

Here's what i have:

Miltek DP 2.5"
Glasspack 2.5"
and then the 2 rear MF mufflers that have 2.25" inlets.

Thats it.

glass pack works like a resonator but less restrictive. Its used on a lot of muscle cars and mustangs.

I have magnaflow mufflers, all I did was run 2inch piping from the resonator to the muffler and the performance is great. I have apr stage1 ,so it improved the low end and top end and car also runs smoother. As for sound, It has like a low deep tone to it. like a bassy tone in low rpms but on high rpms its quiet almost like stock. So saturine, with muffler only you had a raspy sound no low tone? I was going with borla mufflers but someone told me they would be more raspy then the magnaflows? Have yo heard the borlas?

In the cabin the low tone or bassy tone is very noticable at low rpms. Since I have a intake the boosted tech cai, that can get pretty loud at wot to. My friend took a ride with me and said it has a low tone in the cabin from outsid its not loud but can heard when I step on it. I notice it more loud inside the cabin then outside. I will have to have someone drive it , so I can see how it really sounds,but otherwise the tone is pretty low,

Please someone post a sound clip!!! Alot of people are in hyperspeed's same shoes, we dont have $800-900 to spend on an exhaust so the next best thing is get a custom one. Ive been thinking about getting one but Ive never heard one before. Dont want it sounding riceish either. It will be greatly appreciated

Yea, it prolly wont sound that crappy if you ran with out resonators.. The sedan is just a quieter car on the inside, alot more so than the avant..

So just with the mufflers it sounded raspy? the ones I have sound pretty low in cabin which is nice hardly noticable outside.

I have Milltek 2.5" downpipe into 2.5" piping .. then a Y split into 2.25" piping into 2 magnaflow resonators that are 2.25" in and out ...

then goes into 2.25" inlet of the mufflers to 4" tip

the sound is definitely on par with Milltek sound level wise ... the milltek has a tad bit more bassy drone to it ;) and mind you ... the kind of drone that the milltek setup and my magnaflow setup isnt really drone ... but its a beautiful sound ;)

i really like the magnaflow setup more and more ... and for a lot cheaper than the milltek

of course the milltek has the most beautiful sound though

Milltek is great! But at higher RPM's the sound gets less noticeable. I wish the sound ran all the way through 0-7000rpms (or wherever we redline at). A non-res exhaust system on a 4 banger probably wouldn't give off the desired sound. It might sound like your typical low-budget honda civic setup more than anything. I've read in the AW S4 forums that people w/ Millteks have done that and it sounds really nice w/ the V8. There's a sound clip of it floating around in there somewhere.

does the milltek replace the whole stock exhaust system or is there some pieces that you still use? As for sound , does it have a deep tone similar to like thermal? Is it noticable in cabin at low rpms? Iam want to know how it sound?

Milltek replaces everything from behind the catalytic converter. I haven't heard Thermal but the tone is deep. I heard there's alot of drone in the cabin w/ thermal, but with milltek you can only here the drone if your windows are open and your music is off. The sound is great when you're outside of the car, when you're inside, it sounds stock.

Does the sound remind you of a certain car? Iam trying to found out how it sounds, Its hard to fine any sound clips of a milltek.
Stramosphere has a sound clip but its for the older A4, does it sound smilar? I was told it sounds like a stock porshe boxter? But I have a feeling it doesnt. I know its hard to describe the sound but if you can that would be great. Iam debating on getting a milltek system if its worth it!

If you want performance and have Quattro, go Thermal Race, if you care about attracting cops then go with MTM or Milltek. At first I cared about being too loud and attracting cops but I honestly don't care anymore because having a nice sounding exhaust that just lets people know your presence. With Milltek if you have all the windows up and you're playing your music at a moderate level, you can't hear anything, and from the outside it's loud enough for people to notice but the louder the exhaust the more your engine is breathing and the more power you're making.

well the thing is...

me and jeff are down in socal...

sat is in palo alto and titan is in hawaii...

unless i can get some soundclips from those two... i dont think ill be able to meet up with them.

i havnt heard from bugzy though... hes supposed to be down here in socal...

titan has been saying that the magnaflows arent even on par with the milltek sound though...
