    Help w/ Stoptech's...

About a month ago I had my Stoptech's installed at my local shop.

When braking under moderate conditions, I consistently hear a "clunk clunk clunk" sound followed by pulsating. The only way I can describe the feeling is the edges of the brake pads are bouncing off the slots of the rotors if that makes any sense. I thought it might be my ABS engaging but I don't feel the car stop any quicker.

If I remember correctly, when the handbrake is pulled only the rear brake is engaged? I was on a slight incline (about 40_°) with the car in neutral and hand brake engaged. The car rolled back like the brake was not even engaged.

The performance of the brakes so far have been OK. They are better than OEM but not really as well as I expected. I do notice it seems braking performance is a bit better after a few moderate stops.

I'm running Stoptechs w/ 332mm slotted rotors and carbotechs. I have Power slot rotors in the rear with carbotechs.

I don't know if there is something wrong with my setup/installation or this is the norm. Just wanted to get some advice. Thanks.

Sounds like you need to bed the brakes in more. I had that problem when I initially installed it and then after 3 hard braking runs (each run consisted of 10 75mph to 10mph stops) it stopped. It simply is caused by the pads not being bedded in properly. I have carbotechs too, and from talking to other carbotech owners (A4nCar and BHVRDR)these pads require a heavy and hard break in.

yup...i had to b1tch slap these things from 80-5mph a bunch of times to get them broken in. they still don't offer much in the initial bite department, but some like the progressive feel better. cheers! mike

    yeah mike,

I was initially conerned about the lack of "shove you into your seatbelts" initial bite, but then after some agressive driving, I've come to appreciate the progressiveness more...

That being said, I'll probably try some new pads after I wear these babies out... any suggestions?

im going to hop in the pagid blue 4-2 bandwagon. Mind you, not the pagid sport pad which is dark blue. Those should be awesome for aggressive street and solo II. A step above tha pagid pads that come stock on Lamborghini and Ferrari cars. For the big tracks i'm going with the Pagid Orange or Pagid Black. At $200 a set, they should perform very well. Only problem is they dust a bit more, but you just can't have your cake and eat it too. Other option was Ferrodo ds2500, but i have heard awesome reviews on the pagid. cheers! mike
