Defending series Champion Randy Pobst was fastest in practice today for Sunday’s SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship Round Five race at Portland International Raceway. Lou Gigliotti, of Dallas, Texas, and Tommy Archer, of Duluth, Minn., completed the top three.

Driving the No. 1 Audi Certified Pre-Owned Audi RS 6, Pobst turned a fastest lap of 1:18.095 (89.614 mph) around the 1.944-mile circuit in the morning session. Friday afternoon saw the ambient temperature rise to 100 degrees, and lap times fall off significantly. In that session, Pobst could only manage eighth quickest and pulled off midway through the 20-minute run when his car apparently lost power.

Gigliotti’s No. 28 LG Pro Long Tube Header Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 led the hot afternoon session, but it was his morning lap of 1:18.613 (89.023 mph) that would good enough for second on the day. Archer, coming off of his first podium of the season in the No. 22 c3controls/Whelen Engineering/3R-Racing Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, was third quick in the morning and on the day with a lap of 1:18.899 (88.700 mph).

Team Cadillac CTS-V teammates Max Angelelli, of Monaco, and Andy Pilgrim, of Delray Beach, Fla., completed the top five on the day.

Qualifying for Sunday’s Round Five SCCA SPEED GT race is set for 9:45 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday. Live Timing & Scoring Presented by Cadillac is available through www.world-challenge.com.
