the short version: with a budget of $1000

what's a good set of speakers, amps and 10" sub.

-I want to run 5.25s in the front, I don't care about the back seat passengers so I don't need rear deck speakers right?

    - I liked the way my 10w3 hit, so what's a similar 10" sub I can fit (selling the 10w3 with the old box, but i'm willing to buy a new 10w3 if that is the best thing out there within the budget)

    - What amp(s) would be best to power a system like this? future plans would be rear deck speakers, and a DVD touch screen headunit. Might as well buy the necessary amp now instead of going back and having to change it when I add more stuff.

    - how hard is it to make a fiberglass enclosure for the OEM CD cubby? I am handy with a dremel and other tools, but I have 0 experience with fiber glass.

I think that was it. Oh yeah, this will all be running through an OEM Concert Headunit, programmed for Bose (I have already gutted the bose speakers).

heres what to do......Take the 1000.00 dollars you have now....and just do a stage of your system..short cuttin a system will only leave you dissapointed! Mids and highs are imparative to a system(you said"I want to run 5.25s in the front, I don't care about the back seat passengers so I don't need rear deck speakers right? ") No , thats Wrong. a system should be balanced, rear speakers should not be as loud as your fronts...its called "rear Fill" If you can understand this..when you are in your car think of it as a concert hall....there should be a direction from which most of the sound is comming but there should be sound all around you..this is called "imagining." To try and come with in what you can spend now....I would have to say look for a good mid/hi amp...I recommend Phoniex Gold or JL audio..(I am running there(JL) 4x75 watt amp bridged 150 x 2 for just my 3 way seperates with MB quartz comp cross overs). In the Audi's, this amp will be great in the 4x75 config. Also look into JL line of seperates and co-axles or MB Quartz seperates and co-axles. Both companies make GREAT stuff. Start with these things..make sure to get heavy guage wire, Power and GROUND..this helps keep any possible buzzing noise(ie.engine noise, wines when the motor revs or at idle) you can use a line level converter and run the stock head unit for now. IF you can find a place to get you a good deal on amp, mids/highs, anda head unit.....There is only one IMO...ECLIPSE..look for a 5V pre out unit..CLEAN SIGINAL =CLEAN SOUND..this also goes for amps! Take your time and do it right, you will be way happier that you did in the end. When you get more cash....Stay with JL..they make the BEST subs!!!!!!! and with that sub ...10W3....use the 250x1 or the 500x1 JL..hope this helps..Chris good luck

Never heard of either of them John. Where'd you get them, and what sizes? I'd like to hear them. I'll search dealer locations if they have a website...

Oh yeah, sorry for the thread jack...

I always like Infiniti speakers. They are resonably priced. They come boxed with lots of adpaters and things too. Got 4 of em in my cabin, but my headunit is so weak in powering them. I need an amp so bad.

not "imagining", it is "imaging". the illusion of a soundstage. the best way to get good staging with the right amount of rear fill is to run a three channel amp ( to components and a sub) off the front channels of the head and let the rears stay factory. this lets you adjust the level of the rear fill relative to the fronts+sub with the fader.

ED speakers have a great reputation and i believe it is well earned. also look for subs from adire audio's lineup. stock audi headunits should not be used to power aftermaret speakers. either get an aftermarket head or use a real amp. also don't overlook improving the listening environment. dynamatting the doors will do more for you than spending an extra hundred bucks on better speakers. the install is where half the sound quality is earned. the components are the other half.

I ordered the sub directly from Elemental design..

Sorry for my bad spelling... "imaging" but One amp for eveything?? NO THANKS!! SEPERATE AMPS FOR SEPERATE JOBS!!!Did you also know why head units have 3 pre-out on them now???Mutiple amps.
Thats why they rate amps...Such as Class "D" sure I guess you can get the one to do everything..if you are looking for the cheaper route, not maybe the best though...Besides..Did you know amps have level adjustments on them???... Sure why not let the puny little head head unit-built in amp(3-6watts RMS, maybe) push your stock speakers...I was under the assumption that Zodiak was asking for the right way to do it....this is JMO! Didn't know that I was trying to get called out..onemoremile..anyway, do whatever you want...I was trying to help out.

so I should run a mono amp and a 4 channel instead of just 1 5 channel amp, fine that makes sense, in its final stages, the system will have components upfront, some mids on the rear deck to act as fillers, and the 10 in the trunk. It will be run by some aftermarket headunit (I'm gonna keep the stock unit for another 6 months probably) Tanks for the help, all the posts have been helpful.
