My dad just changed his battery in a 99 a4. Today when he would come to a stop it would idle very low around 500 rmps and the car would die. For the car not to die at stops he would have to give it a little gas while stoping. Any suggestions

    Thanks

Try doing a throttle body adaptation:
    1) stick the key in and turn it to the on position (do not start the car, just turn it to the on position, do not touch the gas pedal).
    2) after 1 minute, turn the car on and let it idle on it's own for 1-2 minutes (do not touch the gas pedal).

then drive it around and see if the problem is fixed.

i had the same problem, had the throttle body cleaned and it was fixed for like a week, turned out to be a bad o2 sensor, had it replaced and not a problem since.
