sounds like an overdrive button.... its for cruising on the highway and saves you gas mileage.

I have the same thing on my 2000 with Tip. If you press down to the button it will drop a gear or two and take off. If you go past the button it will drop into the lowest gear possible, without damaging the engine.

thats weird, cuz thats not always "power effective" if you rev uip to like 5.5k rpms, cuz the powerband is not there. i was checking my oil and i wanted to see if when i pressed the button the engen would move or sumthin (enine was off). so i pressed it and there was this cord going to the throttle body and at the end was a little spring looking thing that compressed when the button depressed. what is that little button at the end of the gas pedal throw for?

sounds like it would be useful for passing someone on the highway or a similar situation...

In the UK it's known as a "sport" button, it just drops the car a gear when you're already moving, or it makes the engine go high in revs from a standing start ( just like when us manual owners redband our cars).

I had heard that it detects when the car is at WOT and uses a completely different fuel map then when the car is at partial throttles. If I remember correctly it causes the car to run richer at WOT. There was a guy with a tip who had this button malfunction and always be engaged and it was causing his car to always run rich until he fixed it.

That is called Kick-down, you push the gas past that and it drops you down a gear to pass someone.
