    Question windshield recommendations

Well it finally happened, I was driving behind a silver 540 on the way to work and "SMACK" went my windshield! I'm gonna replace it pretty soon, just wondering if anyone ever heard of getting an oem windshield from a dismantler. I replaced a windshield on my old 90sport with non-oem and seemed to have more problems with glare than I did with oem.

actually, I've heard that OE glass sucks compared to good old american made aftermarket glass. The OE stuff pits, scratches, chips and cracks easier...I had mine replaced last year with non-OEM and its been fine. no glare problems, no distortion.

I got mine replaced with a "Pilkington". Glass shop said it was to best out there and better than OEM. I paid $200 deductible on my Insurance and I'm VERY happy. :0)

Yeah when i bought my s4 my windshield was cracked a few days later. I turned it into insurance.(i have $0 deductible) and the guy who came out to replace it said it was already replaced. He said a rock didn't cause the break it was because of poor glass and poor instalation. He said it was some japanese brand he never heard of. I forget what he put in i will have to go check but it was sweedish and he said it was supposed to be the best. The other windshield didn't even go under the trim on the edges and they used some kind of non oem trim for the top. Luckilly this guy new what was up and he had the correct oem trim piece for the top. The new window seems great so far! I will let you know when i see the brand.

pilkington is definitely the tops in glass.... they're the ones that came up with all those cool structural glass applications they use in modern construction these days..

In Florida if your windshield gets cracked and you have full-coverage insurance, it's gets replaced for free. I had the same exact thing happen to me a couple months ago.

i'm having the a4's replaced with ppg windshield glass. it's supposed to be harder and less prone to rock chips turning into cracks in the windshield. 2nd time this has been done- first time i took it to the dealership for sekurit (OEM) glass and they didn't bother cleaning up after the install, so now i'm sticking with a place i've went to in the past. good luck!
