Question Ok, I need advice on how to blow my $wad....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, I have a 2004 6sp Quattro, and as soon as I bought the car I sprung for APR exhaust and the Stage 1+ chip with injectors. I have since decided that it is TOO SLOW! I have the Evo Intake and Forge DV on the way and I want to hear everyone's opinions (which I'm sure are all different) of how to best spend $4000 to be DONE with my engine tuning entirely. Which turbo kit, which software, FMIC?, test pipe?, new cat? and the retail totals for each. Also I'm wondering if I can get anything for the APR chip I payed WAY too much for ($1100). Unfortunately I had not yet discovered this forum when I had just bought my car or I would have asked all these questions months ago. Any input would be greatly appreciated, but the last thing I want is a stupid argument about whos car is better, I would just like to hear each persons opinion. I know that there are obviously other threads about this, but the information is kinda all over the place. Thanks again guys, HELP ME MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION, this is a lotta dough.

You can get an E05 turbo, test pipe, and FMIC from EuroCode for under $4000 (installed) that will put down more then 215 WHP. That is the way I would go. Then sell the APR Stage 1+ and use that money for a clutch later down the road.

What Villain said. But I wondering if you can keep the injectors and just use that for the E05 with Revo tuning. Mix and match, I know but should probably be a cheaper combo which using the existing injectors.

Depends on the injectors that come with the APR 1+ kit. If they are the TT225 injectors, he can keep them and use them. He will also get a discount for having them already, but the downside to that is that he then can't sell the Stage 1+ kit because people won't want it without injectors. In my opinion it would be easier and better in the long run to sell the APR kit as a whole.

This sucks, I just talked to APR, and the chip is non-transferable. Since it's just a reprogram, there is nothing to sell.

Does anybody know about the APR Stage III turbo upgrade kits? Since i already took a hit on the software, maybe it might be a good idea to just stick with their hardware? I haven't ever heard of anyone using this kit though, so I'm skeptical.

Well, APR's not out yet...2 weeks, haha
no, seriously though, i spoke with a guy at APR up at waterfest and they have it running in their denim blue '02 a4. It has a GT28rs turbo, but is not exactly the same as the one you can buy from garrett or even atp b/c he said they have reworked some of the internals- not sure how. Anyway, he said the thing flys, walks on s4's on pump gas, and has been running without issue. I didnt even bother asking for a release date, because, well, we all know that answer...imo-this is the kit to get if your serious about power

Yup, just got off the phone w/ APR again and they said mid september. And I would get a pretty decent discount on the $5000 sticker cuz of the software and TT225 injectors. He said the kit is gonna be out of this world and "NO BS we're talking over 300 horsepower, it's worth the wait". And i'm in no rush, I just don't want to regret any decision I make.

thats alot of power. does the price include install? what about reliability? a kit that powerful needs to be tuned all the time. alot of problems here and their. personally the E05 is the way to go. only a suggestion of course.

Well, my buddy ran his current apr s3 in his old b5 when it had 140000 miles with no problems until he totalled it, and is now running it on another b5 with no problems, roughty 15000 total miles and the only tuning is his APR chip...APR's hardware is superb and their exhaust manifold is one of the best, and while their chips are one of the most conservative for our cars...they are proven and get the job done...
not saying noones ever had problems, im sure their have been
anyway, just my .02, the e05 has been sounding promising too, but im scared it may go with the bigger impeller on the same size "spindle"

I would be more worried about APR's tuning then I would the E05 spindle. By the way everything gets changed not just the impeller. I just don't trust APR's tuning since Frank left. I had an APR chip on my B6 and it sucked. Do a search and you will see my posts about it. The B5 kit is great, but Frank tuned it, and that makes all the difference. The B6 kit has been coming (in two weeks) for a long time now; which leads me to believe they keep running into problems.

I say get the gt28rs kit and tune it with some revo software. Then get the eurocode tuning fmic and their straight pipe. Your car will haul ass.

That would be awesome, but don't give away my next mod! I am pretty sure that I will have this setup soon; as David is dieing to tune that setup and I am wanting even more power. Couple that with the N2O kit we are going to install and I am pretty sure I will have one of the fastest B6 1.8T Quattro’s out there.

Ok, so if I wanna get the t28rs, who could I get that through and where could I have it installed and tuned? Could Dave do that? I'm usually between LA and San Diego and the more I read about Garret ball bearing turbos the more intrigued I am. I am MORE THAT WILLING to be the guinea pig here, let me know what it would take!

    My humble opinion;

The APR exhaust was not the right choice for performance (or quality for that matter). MTM's full 70mm exhaust system, with their DP/CAT, would be my pick (since I have them), but that would be most of your $4K budget. I had APR and GHL and both were bad for many reasons (fitment, noise, performance, build quality,..etc). Regardless, I'd still get a different exhaust and either do a test pipe, or either MTM's DP/CAT or Millteks HF Sport CAT. Just depends on how you want to deal with emmissions in CA (changing the CAT pipe for smog tests and whether or not you want to pollute more).

With an FMIC; Eurocode Tuning's FMIC seems to be one of the better ones and at a decent price. OC-T has one too and is excellent, but around $1500 IIRC.

As to turbo upgrades; the only positive looking one, within your budget, would be the E05/REVO set up. As well as the K04/REVO (if they have that).
APR's Stage 3 kit is suppose to be available soon. "DLSJ5", on here, is set to get his soon. But that's going to be at least $5K for everything (although since you have their exhaust, you can deduct it). Then you need a clutch and BBK though (which you should honestly get with any significant power/tq increase on this car), along with the FMIC. If you want to do it right, you need these other upgrades.
A T-28 HW kit with REVO is another option too. This might actually be one of the better ones at the moment. Of course there is also the GT28RS kit that Davod at Eurocode ran for a while. So you have a few options. You just need to contact sources and get quotes/specs and fit your budget.

The Forge DVR is a good choice IMO. Generally stay away from BOV's, although Forge does have one that Eurocode says works.

And don't forget to use some good oil/fluids like Motul . If you're going to be increasing power/stress levels on your 1.8t, you want the best 100% synth in there. Use a 5W-40 or something like Motul's 8100 Ester E-Tech 0W-40. Or even their 300V 5W-40 Pure Ester Racing oil.

Yeah, I really think I'm gonna wait. Although everyone seems to be pretty happy with their choice in upgrade, I figure why not try something else. Wanna be different.
