driving without a hood?

Is it ok to drive without a hood for say 5 hours at 90mph? What pieces should i remove to ensure they dont come flying off.

omg make sure you put some hemi badges on your car while you have the hood off. how long does it take to tub a rear end, maybe some ladder bars once you get that done?

just remove the plastic pieces and i think you'll be fine. just watch out for flying objects.

I dont know if he sold he old hood, but he is driving down here to get a new hood.... and has no way of bringing his original hood back too. I mean, it doesn't exactly fit in the trunk!

When in doubt, refer to the California DMV rulebook. From what I can remeber, it only said something about being illegal to drive without a front bumper, but nothing mentioning about a hood. So run with it and tell the officer it wasn't in the rulebook. But I guess he'll still come up with some bullshit lie to give you a ticket anyhow.

I would probably choose not to do this. For one, if it ever rained, you're screwed. Plus you don't want rocks and crap flying in your engine bay.

Why not just get someone elses truck/car to go pick it up? (If that's an option). Or just rent a pickup from a rental car place for about $40.

Go for it, I drive with my hood off all the time. I like to mix it up, some days with the hood on, sometimes not.

haha... rig a bug deflector to the front so the bugs don't get all sucked into your engine bay.

I'm almost positive that it's not illegal to drive without a hood. My friend used to because his motor was too high for the hood to close. He never had problems with the police.

You'll be fine if it rains (unless it rains hard), the only thing to worry about is flooding the spark plugs with water (which drying will fix).. We wash motors all the time at work.. I think that the only problem would be rocks, etc.

Yes, i'm going down to LA to pick up my new hood. my old one is sold. I wont worry too much about rain. It'll only be off for 4-5 hours and i doubt mid-california will be raining anytime soon. As for rocks, the roads will probably be empty on a saturday morning. Count this as the first ever successful ram air intake for the Audi. No hot air for me. Renting a truck or borrowing a truck is not an option. Renting would be expensive due to driving it out of town and i'm under 25 years of age.
