    hey.
so i'm def painting my calipers, RED.
what i am looking for is specific info as far as what type/brand of paint to buy and what i should do to make it look as dope as possible.

i'm guessing just clean the calipers up and paint and wait and paint and wait and paint and wait, then tons of clear coat. ????

did you have to remove the caliper assembly???

if no, then is it hard to remove paint from the rotors, should i use brake clean???

    thanks fellas........

Duplicolor makes a caliper paint you can get at Autozone or Advanced Auto. Also theres something i think G-Tech Caliper Paint which comes in more colors (both offer red)

-From what i remember you do not HAVE to take your calipers off but i would to get a nice full coat and to be able to take em to a table and paint them instead of trying to in the wheel well

-If you get any paint on your rotors.. a couple of braking times will clear em right up.

Painted mine basic black awhile ago, it wasn't too difficult. Just a bit tedious if they're in bad shape (IE: rusty and dirty as hell). Used steel wool and a Dremmel to clean them up and ready them for the next step.

It's best to take them apart so you can really get in there, as the prep work is maybe more important than the painting part. You can also mask off the rotor and surrounding area as needed.

Don't recall what brand paint I picked up, just know that it was a high-temp engine paint. Didn't clear-coat mine and they're holding up just fine. A high-temp clear-coat would definitely be a good idea though.

brake cleaner will take the paint off the rotor, as it would with the caliper.

I recently did this to the stock brakes on an A4 with a friend.

We simply removed the wheel, cleaned the caliper using Brakleen and a brush/towel.

We then covered the wheel well with newspaper, teh brake rotor and other brake parts with a plastic trash bag btu ripped the bag to reveal only the caliper. Two coats of red Brake Caliper paint and let it dry for a half hour before putting the wheel back on.

he says he is happy wiht it and from behind his stock 16" 5 spoke wheels it looks pretty good.

all in all took about 3 hours for 4 wheels.

Not sure how it will last in the long run, better off taking the caliper off if you're picky about it.
