    Lightweight Wheels for B6 S4 ???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been searching for a set of 18" wheels (9" or 9.5" wide) for my 2004 B6 S4 sedan (Nogaro blue), to replace the very heavy Avus 6-spoke wheels that came with the car. Primary purpose of new wheels is racetrack use with competition tires.

I want something LIGHT. I have Nismo 18" forged alloys on my 350Z that weigh only about 16 lbs. each. I can't find anything like that for the Audi in 5 x 112 bolt pattern. Please help. Thanks.

Just off the top of my head, here are a few. I don't know their weights though. BBS CH, RGR, and RS-GT, OZ SL's, and Volk SF Winning.

    Most Volks have 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern, and the S4 is 5 x 112. Is the Volk SF Winning 5 x 112 ?

According to tirerack.com, the BBS CH weighs 24.5 lbs. (18" x 8.5") -- way too much. The BBS RGR weighs 19 lbs (18" x 8") and is better looking, but I want a wider wheel. The RS-GT (18" x 8.5") is 20.5 lbs and costs $675 each, which is pretty steep. I paid $450 apiece for my Nismo 5-spoke forged alloys for the 350Z that weigh 16 lbs. each. The OZ-Superleggera (18 x 9) is the right size and is only $375 each, but they weigh about 20 lbs. (still too much) and are on back order at TireRack.

Plus, I really like 5-spoke wheels. I think the 5-spoke wheel on the A4 looks better than the Avus 6 spoke on the S4. Those BBS (don't know what you call them) "pattern" wheels look dated to me. Don't really like them. Ultimately I want to save unsprug weight, and don't really care too much about the look.

I can't believe this is so difficult.

I love the Volk SF Winning. I was going to get a set for my car so I know they are 5x112, but I just couldn't afford them. I still think Kinesis makes some of the lightest wheels. They are extremely expensive though.

Go with some custom wheels, like Fikse or Kinesis

Other options would be SSR's and OZ's. Check out tirerack.

Volk LE37 has the bolt pattern for S4...they are only 16.8lbs for 18". But you can only get 18x7.5...I was on the same boat as you before I got my volk. I wanted something wider and light. The only options I had were OZ and SSR comp C. But neither of those fit my taste. I ended up having to compromise and got volk le37 even thought the are not as wide as i would like. But I am happy with them so far.

oh and i dont think those nismo wheels you talked about are 16lbs... They are 18-19lbs . I used to own a 240sx and I did a lot of research on wheels for nissans.

HRE's are light. I was looking at a set of 19's and they only weigh 19 lbs.

I've had both Fikses (hated them -- they pitted very easily if you didn't get the brake dust off immediately) and HRE's (not as light as I would have liked, but well made). Both are prohibitively expensive and I'd never drop that kind of money on wheels unless I won the lottery or wanted a divorce.\
For the money, you can't beat SSR's. I had SSR Integrals on my M3 and they held up (structure and finish) to 4 seasons of track use without any problems. I think the Competition is the only one available for the b5 now, but it's worth checking out.
