Or do I need to get new lugs? If so where can I get them for cheap? Wheellocks?

You can use your stock ones. The problem is that you wont have locks to protect them

Do you run stock lugs? with Wheel locks? The wheel locks go over your existing lugs right?

So you are running stock lugs but without locks? I think I am reading that right?

locks just look exactly like another bolt, but they have a weird pattern.. stock bolts work for some wheels, like iforged, but my wheels i needed longer bolts which i got from SPP. i then got RAD locks from pureMS.

Who's got 8.5" wide rims, and are using aftermarket lugs?
How long are they, because I'm using my stockers on my 18X8.5's right now...is this bad?

i wouldn't use my stock lugs for aftermarket wheels. they're just too visible, and you might need to switch from ball joint end style to acorn style lugs. and they look purdy with new lugs.

From what I understand, the lug nuts that you use depends on the seat type (conical/tapered, ball radius, flat)and also the length. With my 18X8.5 oz antares I had to get new lug nuts with the seat type of my rims. Also the length helped my peach of mind because more than a couple threads was holding them on. But I also heard that the proper bolt length is needed because it could have an affect on our ABS. But maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

yeah, u can get a set of lugs at discount tire for like $40+. from what they tell me, the stock wheels are ball seat, and the aftermarket are acorn (conical/tapered). when i had my BBSs on my B5, i needed to use different, longer lugs that tirerack was generous enough to throw in with my order, as well as a set of wheel locks. if you're putting on your 5-spoke 16s from your b5, you should be fine with your stock lugs.

It really depends on the wheel you are using. Our OE wheels are a ball-type, which uses the ball seat (round) on the lug bolt. Some wheels require a conical (angled/flat) seat, which will require conical lug bolts.

You may need new lugs depending on the wheel. For instance, my stock lugs worked fine on my rs6 replicas. When I had giovanna attacks, I had to order different lugs. There are two different types, conical seat, and ball seat. I forget what the stock lugs are....but just to be safe, its best to ask the wheel manufacturer which lugs to use.
*edit*, just looked it up. Stock wheels & lugs are ball seat. So if the wheel manufacturer says you need conical seat lugs...you need to order new lugs, otherwise, use the stock ones.
*edit again* looks like jeff beat me too it

exactly what Jeff said...most aftermarket wheels other than the aforementioned, Abt and Oettinger uses the OE lugs because they are ball seat. I just picked up some RAD locks from PURE Motorsport they're the 32mm variety. Ben if you're getting aftermarket wheels brand new you should be getting new lugs to go w/ it.

I would advise you not to run the ball seat lugs if the wheels take conical as you wont be able to torque them down properly.

that's the thing depending on offset and the center design of the wheel itself plays a part in lug lengths. Lemme go put my locks on the wheels and i'll measure the Sportec Lugs to give you an idea.

my rad locks are 30 and my lugs are 29

it all depends on the wheel itself.. not really depth of rim ..so by me saying 19x8.5 is completely useless to ur application

    Get new lugs.

As most have correctly mentioned wheels can come with different styles of "seats" where the bolt meets the wheel.
Cone (taper), ball, acorn, and flat. Most common on the Audi/VW is the Cone for aftermarket wheels, and ball for genuine, or some OE wheels.

Lug bolt length is the second criteria. Stock lug bolts are 27mm. Aftermarket wheels vary anywhere from 25mm up to 35mm.

Both of these specs are critical in making sure the wheels stay on the car. Using improper lug bolts can cause them to loosen, and sometimes even dent or crack the wheel, if an improper seat style is used.

RAD makes lugs and locks in dozens of lengths, styles, and sizes.

Feel free to email if you have any questions.

Other people have already explained ball seat vs. cone seat, so I won't repeat. If they are aftermarket wheels, more than likely you need cone seat.

Don't mix and match. Not only will it not torque down properly, you will likely damage the wheel.

Lug bolt length depends only on the thickness of the wheel at the holes. Offset and width have nothing to do with it.

Stock lug bolts are 27mm. You need 7 complete turns/rotations of the lug from the time the first thread catches to when it bottoms out before torquing. I would try your stock lug bolt with the aftermarket wheel WITHOUT TORQUING to check length. Less than 7 turns = need longer bolt.
