The Control Room - better than F9/11

Just saw another documentary about the War in Iraq called the Control Room and it was absolutely incredible. I highly recommend seeing it. It shows how the media is controlled by the millitary and how the Al Jazeera news agency manages it's news interests. It's facinating and infuriating at the same time. Not to take away from Moore's piece, but I'd hate for this little documentary to get lost in the hoopla for his pic. See them both and file it away in your mind when you need to make a decision come November.

I got to speak with the director at the San Francisco Film Festival when they screened her first film, "Startup.com" which was also quite good, sort of "fly-on-the-wall" perspective of the surreal dotcom bubble. She was telling me about the concept for this film and she wasn't expecting to have Al Jazeera give her as much access as the ultimately did. What distinguishes this doc is that she manages to maintain a pretty tight focus on the subject matter despite the temptation/distraction of other political aspects of the emerging war.

i heard great things about this movie, i heard theres a good scene involving rumsfeld and his "mistaken" missile firing at the station or something?

maybe next we can have a documentary on the abu gharib prison scandal? then we can really get a taste for what this administration is abooot.

Didn't even know about this movie. I will definantly keep an eye out for it. I don't think it's hit theatres here in Spokane, unless its not being hyped.

I saw that one at the SF Documentary Festival this year and found it to be lacking the kind of tight focus on it's subject matter that The Control Room demonstrated. The run time was over 2 1/2 hours as result of some mediocre editing. It seemed more like a collection of many essays on various neferious corporate events ranging from Union Carbide's Bopal horror, to the RBG milk issue, to Agent Orange. It's like a professor in undergrad once told me about writing a good paper, "the shotgun approach" rarely does justice to the subject at hand.

The end result is that the only running thread the director used to try and keep all of the aspects of the Corporation together is that Corporations are bad, mkay. So you end up feeling beaten and battered over the head with this rather obvious message of bumpersticker caliber.
