How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

    Hello,

I have a 2001 A4 1.8T quattro with the tiptronic trans. I just recently purchased it and I am not happy with the shift points. I have read that you can erase the transmissions computer and make it relearn how you drive. I would love it if the car would shift around 3K during normal 1/2 throttle operation or so. Any ideas??

    Thanx

If you have your radio code you can just disconnect the battery I believe, tho dont quote me on that. If its anything like mercedes benz then it would be kinda like that.

Re: How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

Try doing a throttle body adaptation, it "should" reset the tip ecu when you do it.

Not necessary, but make sure your engine is cold. Disconnect your battery for about 5-10 minutes (have radio code ready). Reconnect your battery and insert your key into the ignition. Turn ignition on but do NOT start. Let it sit there for about 5 minutes. Turn ignition off and then start the car....go for a drive.

If you open your hood when you first turn your ignition on, you should hear a humming noise; that's the throttle body resetting itself.

p.s. - it's not a bad idea to do this if you disconnect your MAF for any reason. I'm not 100% sure, but to do a TBA, i don't believe you have to disconnect your battery every time.

p.s.s. - vag-com can definitely do it, but this is the how to set it without a vag-com

when you disconnect the battery do you unhook both ground and hot or just ground.

Unhappy Re: How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

Has anyone who tried this actually noticed the trans change to accomadate their driving style?? It maybe just me but my car lunges forward then stops then lunges again before actulally getting going smoothly. I think this is a tranny problem but not 100% on that. I was told it is because I have an automatic that it acts like a dog dragging it's ass across the ground. Maybe the AWD has something to do with it.

Re: How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

I just disabled the memory function (DSP) all together on mine. I used a vag-com to do this and talked a little bit on how to do it in this post:

    http://www.audiforums.com/fb.asp?m=535021
    "[Select]
    [02 - Auto Trans]
    [Recode - 07]
    Enter the coding below
    [Do It!]

My original code was 00000, the new code I entered to disable DSP was 00010. Any other code I tried did not take and reset after I applied it. I originally was trying to enable a sport mode which I come to find out my tranny doesn’t have but found this gem instead.

Also remember changing values like this is not very safe and you can hurt your car if done improperly. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it I suggest you don’t.

Here is the Ross Tech page which lists some other things you can do to some of the B5 models with the vagcom, but this one above was not listed. Ross Tech generally only lists the safe ones. http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audiB5.html "

    Hope this helps,
    Jovain

Try the tip tb adaptation. Search for it.

Re: How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

All I could find on the TB adaptation is to let it sit for like 5 min. so it will reset it self. That is unless you have a Vag-com program which i don't.

The car seems to be getting better on it's own anyway. I am going to NGP here in MD for a trial version of the APR program. Maybe I can sweet talk them into erasing my TCU while they are in there.

Re: How to erase the Tiptronic memory?

I was talking about the tranny's throttle adaptation not the tb adaptation. There's a way to do it without using a vag also.
