I'm wanting to do another mod that not very expensive and might help out on the performance and sound aspect, So i was wondering what you guys think of the intakes out there. If any of you can, please help me out. I want to know the pros and cons if there are any, the best ones out there, and general input.

    Thanks

i put the BoostedTech Cold Air INtake in a couple weeks ago and i'm really enjoying it. it really emphasizes the sound of the turbo when under load and you can really hear the turbo spooling. When i put it in, i didn't really notice any gain/loss in power, probably because of how minimal of a power gain it is, but it sounds cool as hell.

When i was running the CAI at first, i was using the stock 710N TT diverter valve. It would start to lose boost around 5k and start to falter at around 6k rpm. i got the Forge 007 (or 006) DV and the difference was incredible. It pulls strong all the way to 6.5k rpms and all in all makes the car feel better.

My recommendation is to get an aftermarket DV: forge, hyperboost, turbo xs, etc. if you decide to get the CAI. when coupled together, they work pretty good.

the only thing is, it can get a little costly. i ended up spending close to 420 for both the DV and CAI. i'd go with a chip first and foremost though

I'm not impressed with any intakes on the market. I'd rig something custom or keep it stock.

So far i have the neuspeed chip and the K&N filter, so i need to get a DV for sure. That should be my next mod, and then after that i really think i should get the intake you're running, now that i know someone has something good to say about it. BTW, what rims are those on your sig, they look sick.

Hey cadenceX, is there a certain reason, is there a loss in power that you know of, or is it the fact that it's so easy to make.

running on 19x8.5 ADR M-Classics. some people just don't like the idea of an intake because it produces such little gains for the money. You would be better off getting a 2nd side mount intercooler if you were looking for better cooling of the turbo.

I'm thinking of possible trying something custom... it's a little far fetched and would probablly only benefit for track use, but I just wanna go w/ it and see where I get.

Intakes actaully could give you a decrease in performance. Reason? Heat shielding. Look at the OEM heat shielding then look at the heat shielding the aftermarket CAIs give you. It doesn't even come close. What happens to air if it is heated? It expands. Therefore you will actually be getting LESS airflow into your intake, and into the engine. That=bad. Do a search here on AZ and AW and you will see why intakes don't do much UNLESS you do custom heatshielding. And I mean you need to do an EXCELLENT job. See how the air is directly rammed into the intake on the OEM setup? See how the air is almost COMPETELY shielded from the engine bay air?

Point: Stock is perfect for the 1.8t engine, which delivers the right amount of cool air already. So far all the CAIs have been for show or just don't do what they claim to do without some really good custom work.

    Yeah JMG said it.
I'm conviced you COULD make an excellent aftermarket, true CAI, I'm just not greatly impressed by anything out there. If I were looking for optimal performance I'd personally stick with the stock box for now.

Save your money. I built mines for $12 in Home Depot parts ($5 on band-aids from cuts).

Setup consisted of TWO sheets of sheet metal, with a layer of FLAME RETARDANT fiberglass insulation "sandwiched" in between to dissapate and insulate the heat. Works wonders. :)

Do you have a better pic of the finished product? Did you path the airflow from the inlet? It looks like hot air from the engine can still be introduced at that point.
