Want bluer color for your headlight for free without losing lumens?? Read this mod

I have done a small mod on the projector as part of the research. Here are 2 cutoff beam pictures on a wall that I took before and after projector mod:

    Before:

    After:

    Any comments????

The projector that I use is a Halogen Ecode projector with my HID kit. You will get the similar result using your existing DOT projector(of course the cutoff edge will look different but color wise it is the same). This mod can be applied to both halogen and xenon housing.

There is no change of bulb whatsoever, it is standard OEM xenon bulb. So it still have maximum brightness without losing lumens.

Now... How did I do that? Pictures will follow soon....

I can't wait to see what you did. Honestly, mine look alot like the second pic, although I do have E-Code HIDs...

I'll wager that the distance between the bulb and the cut-off shield is farther on the second one.

The second pic loses the sharpness in the cut off, the light is scattering on the left. This is a problem when the light hits the road at a great distance. It looks like you changed the distance between the bulb and the projector causing it to not focus properly. I might be wrong but thats my guess. Spill the beans already.

Actually the lens and the bulb are at the same position. I pushed the cutoff shield inward towards the bulbs for about 1mm.

So the bulb is still focus and you wont have that problem. As you can see, the sharpness is still very good.

But the slight bend in the shield has amplified the prizm effect of the cutoff and therefore the blue light stand out more.

I have checked that it is not creating any lighting performance problem even at great distance.

You can use your hand if you wish, all you need is just 1mm and you will have a very nice color. :)

You may have to take out the projector from the headlight before doing that, or if you have tools that let you pull slightly, it will work as well.

This is pretty funny stuff. I was talking to Evil on AIM a few months ago about this very same mod. I originally read about it here:

    http://faq.auto.light.tripod.com/projector-unit.htm

(See the section called: "What creates the colorful cutoff band?")

I took my projectors out of my housings and tried to bend the cutoff shield towards the bulb and it really didn't make a great difference. It did how ever, cause my cutoff to become sloped at the edges because the cutoff was now angled towards the light source.

You cant bend it too much. As you can see.. it created the blue just-about-right.
