    HID fuse question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I seem to be blowing my 10amp fuse for my headlights eversince i swiched over to HID's. If i flip the switch on a couple times fairly quickly is when the fuse seems to blow. I remember reading that some replaced the 10amp with 15amp fuses. Would this be ok. TIA.

I read from the install guide that IF it blows your fuse constantly with the 10amp, you should change to 15.

that would seem to me like you are just covering up your problem... think about it, you are installing a 35w bulb essentially and taking out a 55w (using less power) why would you be blowing fuses? i dont have a problem with it, i would advise just checking over everything and making sure that it is correctly wired maybe search around for protocolD's install instruction and make sure yours is like the way he advises, i followed it and have no problems whatsoever.

Actually he should be looking at 15. The power consumption of HID (35W) is less than halogen (55W) when it has been lite up.
However, the power it will draw when it first ignite is much much more than that and that's why he blow his fuse when he try to turn it on and off too quickly.

What Proto said. When you turn on the HIDs you can feel the electrical system take a hit and then catch up. My 10 still works for me, but I might switch out to the 15 just to be safe.

HIDs startup power are around 150W.

According to Physics. Voltage x Current = Power

    12V x 10A = 120W max.
    12V x 15A = 180W max.

That's pure calculations. Actual power consumptions varies.

As you can see, it is save to use 15A fuse and that's what being used in all aftermarket HID system.
