    Desperately need help quick

My car is having serious issues. I noticed today that getting going in first gear was tough. It feels like it is just not grabbing. I would hit the gas and let off the clutch and eventually just let the clutch the rest of the way off and the car would kind of jerk like a new clutch driver. Tonight, I was cruisin and suddenly the engine (in 4th gear) revved way up quickly without acceleration. I let off the gas, re-accelerated and it did it again. I thought at first I was hydroplaning but it was not the case. I smelled something kind of burning. I stopped and checked the engine but could see nothing.

Now getting out of first is even harder. IF I drop into a lower gear(ie 5th to fourth), it does not seem to affect anything. I can accelerat up to about 3000-3500rpm and then the engine just revs and I have no more acceleration in all gears.

Tranny, hose???? Must drive to ST Louis tomorrow and neep help badly!

    TIA

Thanks a lot guys. The only thing is, I bought the car in March, and the guy I bought it from installed a SPEC II clutch, and he was the second owner of the car. The car itself only has 48k and the new clutch has to have less than that.

Yeah, if you ride the clutch a lot, and/or drop it a lot, it can really kill the life of it.

The clutch smell is pretty distinct. Have you ever glazed it before? It's like that. Did you rev it hard on a start before this happened? Maybe you just glazed it.

Clutch is toast. Could be due to a bad install or the previous owner beat on the clutch before it was broken in properly. I wouldn't plan on taking a trip anywhere in your car with the clutch slipping the way your describing otherwise you will be getting towed.

Plan on spending $400-$700 for a new clutch and pressure plate more if you want a lightweight flywheel.

    $300-$600 for install.

damn, made it to STL...$174 later for rental car. Dropped the car off at Champagne motors in Denver. They are pretty notorious. Larry at Champagne did a quick check and said he actually doesnt suspect the clutch. More I think, I dont either. I have smelled burnt clutches many times, and dont think that was the smell. More like a HOT smell. Plus, 16k miles on the new SPEC clutch, must have been a dumba$$ driving for it to go bad already
(ie not me). Thanks for the help though, gonna have dad bring it out in a couple weeks. Gives me a chance to get the new STaSIS/Konis on too. Sucks a$$ not having it here though.

OoOo..yes sounds familiar.. It is the clutch. But it could be your pressure plate breaking. Mine broke into 3 pieces, and then my clutch slipped like mad and finally it gave out. That hot smell are from "hot spots" on the clutch. Sorry about the cutch, hope you get your baby back soon!

Hey bro from the sounds of it as everyone else said its probably the clutch. Mostly what i'd have to think the problem would be is either improper install by the previous owners shop, improper break in peroid for the clutch, or just someone riding the clutch.

Arent you lowered already? Why are you out here in MO? You should have told me bro i was in KC, MO. You probably drove right by where I was tonight.

Well all you smarta$$es were right, clutch. It may only be the plate or flywheel, I will know for sure tomorrow. I am so pissed that a SPEC II went out in 24k miles. I can totally picture the 17 yr old dummy who sold me the car doing 4 wheel burnouts at his high school parking lot. Ah well, only a $700 job +parts (hack, hack).
