Went on without a hitch, just a quick cut behind the mid-resonator and slip on with clamps. After looking at the clamps for about maybe 30 seconds I toodled off to Jerry's Muffler and had a nice weld-up instead.
Damn. this looks the biz. Wonderful quality throughout, tips are mean. Sound is awesome, not much louder than stock but throaty and growly. Gives me a bit of a stiffy
Best part is the performance. This is a 3.0 Q, BTW. There used to be a definite surge around 3000 where the power really came on, I've never seen a torque curve for this unit but I expect a pretty steep climb would be evident. That's all smoothed out now, what it feels like is the lower part of the curve climbs faster, still just as fast from 3000 up but now faster from launch to 3000. Very nice. Think I might have to try a Wett chip...
I also finally solved a little problem with my Moven center caps. As mentioned before, love the rims and hate the caps. The OEM caps are too small. Until now... wrap a 2-1/8" ID 1/8" thick O-ring around the tabs of the Audi cap and voila! With some careful prodding and a dab of silicone behind once fully seated, I think the result is slick. Damn I'm clever
Actually, my spouse-facsimile, while watching me struggle trying to cheap out with rubber bands & tape said "A big-assed O-ring would do better". Thanks, honey.
And lastly, finally got my Focal 165kp's installed. Thanks to John (Saturnine) for some tips (months ago). Pretty easy install, took some time to do it neat. Results are amazing, I can actually listen to the thing now. The stock Symphony II speakers are shite, so brash & mid-weighted my ears actually hurt after any extended listening. The Focals are superb, real & warm. Much has been written on audio and I didn't add any amplification (I listen to mostly jazz & classical piano on tape from my vinyl) so I'll not go into detail. If anyone thinks I have info of use PM me.
All in all a pretty good week. I love this car....
