    hey guys my a4 is silver and i'm going to be re-painting my rs4 grill tomorow and was wondering if you guys think i should paint the trim silver and the rings black (which it currently is and looks good but its chipped) or paint both the trim and the rings black. pics would be helpful. thanks alot

    I have both painted in flat black...it looks great at first, but can chip easily. Be sure to take your time sanding and use a good primer.

    use plasticoat or any kind of plastic primer promoter. otherwise it will always chip, even if you sand it. i sanded it and used a plastic promoter and its great.


    i like black trim with chrome rings.
    why didn't i buy a rs4 gill when they were $60

    yeah it does chip easily, i've had to do mine a couple times...still experimenting with what works best haha

    Can you just buy it with a black trim and chrome rings from anywhere?

    I pulled the rings off and scotchbrited them until they had a nice brushed finish. They are somewhere between brushed aluminum and brushed titanium. This was a very cool little effect until the rings got stuck in the side of an idiot's car last January.

    I did the exact same thing. It looks hot. Tried sanding and painting, and it chipped like hell.

    Then I used PLASTI-DIP. It's the perfect shade of flat black, and it hasn't chipped at all in the year I've had it on. And if it ever does, it's no problem to touch-up.
