impressions of my elemental designs e8a.44

well...finally after ALOT of time and frustration, i got one sub up and running...and all i have to say is....


OH MY GOODNESS SOOOOOOOOOO FREAKIN CLEAN.

this has to be one of the cleanest subs i have EVER heard. this one tiny 8" sub extends so low...about the same as my 2 15" crystals did...the low end extention is simply AMAZING. the middle and upper bass is perfect....precise and tight. the clarity is unbelievable. the volume is a little less than what i would want in a sub...but i need alot. after having 2 15"s and my w7 ported...i need a decent amount of power. if you're looking for an extra oomph, this is MORE than enough. if you like listening loud then this is PERFECT. i just need a little bit more.

im almost absolutely positive that when i toss in my 2nd 8 the volume will be more than enough.

here are some more details for those who care.

the sub is an elemental designs e8a.44.
450watts rms
dual voice coil 4 ohms each
box is .28 cubes sealed, about .23 cubes after displacement of sub and wiring...gives me a qt of slightly under .707 iirc...

amp is avionixx 800.2
running stereo, one channel to each coil at 4 ohms
200 watts x 2
400 watts total running sub

all i have to say is WOW. this 8" sub has impressed the **** outta me...i might just ditch the 15 altogether and toss 4 8s or something in the trunk...

oh yes...props to Jeff on AZ for helpin me through some box calculations. im sure the almost perfect box dimensions contributes to the awesome low end and tight high end on the sub...

i cant wait to install my comps for that extra kick in midbass...then my system will be very balanced...

then i get to drop in that nasty 15" to disrupt that balance a little...

the sub sells for 185 iirc but its discontinued. you will never find one new again. your best bet is to find one used, or go with a different line. elemental designs is coming out with with the v2 version of this sub somewhere down the line...which could mean a a month to...really really far away.

i would look into their other subs as they are all excellent...

pics are useless. the box looks like a piece of crap. i got too eager to do it right, plus im going to buy new wood and make a new box...

i just tossed it together, sealed it up and played...theres glue everywhere and it just looks like crap.

however it does sound excellent =)
