Stock paper one works great, but life expectency is only about 10,000 miles. I run the ITG panel filter, which is essentially a lifetime part. I'm very happy with it, and I feel it's superior in filtration compared to a K&N, without concerns of oiling (which can ruin your MAF if you're not careful).

I got mine from AWE-tuning for about $50.

No. You will never get a sound difference from just changing a filter that is insde the box. The only way you'll get a noise change is if you remove the air box, which is the sound-deadening part of the air intake.

Sure you've heard of K&N filters.

    I'm selling one for $35 if you're interested...Paid $57.

It's Brand NEW In BOX never installed, Lifetime part with oiling and 1 million mile warranty.

I bought the S-Flow Intake with ITG filter on it from AWE so I have no need for the drop in K&N filter.

Let me know via PM or Email if interested.

I heard that K&N is a good lifetime filter and I've never heard of ITG...is this strictly a European filter?

Also, read on BMW forums that some ITG users are very unhappy with the quality of their filter. Just wondering if anyone knows how many microns filter through the ITG vs. K&N?

I've done K&N in most of my rides. IMO, its the way to go.

I also like my ITG. People tend to have fewer problems with their MAF getting dirty, and the foam filter seems to block stuff well. Just to be sure, I dabbed some of the oil off when I got it, but you should be okay. Lifetime part too! People who have problems with the ITG tend to be the ones that have re-oiled it and most likely saturated it too much. Most people never even bother to oil it anymore...they just vacuum and wipe off any of the stuff that's caught in it.

And a lot of people will deny any sound difference... but I'm almost 100% sure that it sounds a little deeper, most notably at high cruising speeds. It's possible it varies from car to car, but I drove my car around for over a year with the paper one, and once I put the ITG in, it sounded different...subtle but noticeable. Any claimed performance increases are minimal or nonexistent. The paper filter definitely does a good job, but at least you won't ever have to buy another filter with this ITG foam one. =) Plus, you get a cool sticker. That alone makes it worth the $50 (jk...sorta)

Yes, i noticed a deeper sound with my ITG panel filter in the past before i have an intake. Felt a bit more punch/smoother up top and louder at higher cruising speed

Guys, I have to say... it's all in your head. You'll never notice any discernible sound difference from a drop-in. The sound issue is related to the air box, which is a non-resonating design, to make it quiet. Filters do not make a difference with noise inside the box.

Usually when you drop one in you tend to pay more attention, and drive harder to test it, which makes you think you hear it more, or that it generates more power. But I can assure you this is not the case, as I've ran tests with my VAG-com and compared the flow data before and after. They flow the same. Actually, the paper flowed barely a bit better, but that is not a lifetime part, which is why I run the ITG panel. Which, by the way, should never be oiled. You don't oil foam. Oil is for the cotton K&N crap.

Great info...I ordered my ITG filter from AWE as advised. Overall, everyone gave ITG a great review (on several Euro boards as well). Only a few gave ITG a bad rap with no supporting details justify their accusations (haters).

I would like to convert the entire air flow to a conical form. Other than what I've read (about cutting holes through the box) is there a more streamlined way to convert...air flow kit etc? Looking for a neat clean job.

Eh, maybe you're right or maybe not. You should at least consider the possibility that every car has subtle differences and that maybe using a butt-dyno isn't going to tell the whole story, especially if you drove the car under slightly different conditions each time. Who knows, maybe the air/elevation where I live is different enough for the filter to actually make a difference. All I know is that I heard things and felt things that I was in no way expecting. It still happens occasionally when I'll just be driving from place to place thinking of something else and suddenly, I'm a little pleasantly surprised by the sound my car will make. I've driven the car long enough before putting the filter in to know that that didn't happen before.

Remember: sometimes other people's opinions matter haha

Is this based on Personal opinion or something else? Because when Iworked at Audi it was 20k for the AIR FILTER.

BTW: I run the Amsoil and it works great. Used the K&N before and was good too.
