S4 Wheel and Tire Questions ???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The B6 S4 runs on ridiculously heavy 6-spoke Avus wheels that are 18" and shod with 235/40/18 Conti's that would not be my choice for a performance tire. My questions are:

    1. How wide are the stock wheels?

    2. How wide can you reasonably go with aftermarket wheels on the S4?

    3. Do you have to have the same width wheels and tires on the front and back, due to the awd system? That's what my owner's manual says, but it doesn't make sense to me. The 911 4S has an awd system, and it runs on much wider wheels and tires on the rear than the front.

    4. What is the lightest weight 18" wheel anyone knows about, that will fit the S4?

    Thanks.

Kinesis makes some very lightweight wheels as well as Volk and a lot of the forged 3 piece wheels are light. I would imagine the S4 is the same as an A4 and I have seen many people running 9.5" wide rear wheel. Some people have tried 10" wide rears, but I'm not sure how successfully.

With that size tire I think the stock S4 wheel would be around 8" wide.

From my understanding you do not have to run the same widths front and rear, only the same overall diameter. Many people run a 235/35/19 front and a 265/30/19 rear I believe.

Man, I want an S4 sooo bad.

19's are not good for the racetrack. I will stick with 18's. I like Volk. Who sells them? I went to tire rack on-line, and they had 62 different wheels to fit the S4, but none of them were Volks.

Just using 19's as example to explain the size/quattro thing since I know them better than 18's.

You can buy Volks at Group5motorsport, Discount Tire, Wheel Boutique, and others. I love the Volk SF Winning. I really wanted a set, but I couldn't wait any longer to save money.

BTW I wouldn't use any of the seaches on websites that ask what model your car is. They never show you all the wheels that will fit. Just find a wheel you like and see if they have it in a 5x112.

Thanks. I looked at the Volk wheels at Group5, and they all seem to be in the lug pattern 5 x 114.3, NOT 5 x 112. Will that fit the S4?

No, I think that pattern is for a Lexus, not really sure. But, on the bright side, I believe Volk carries most of their wheels in a 5x112. Just call or email Group5, they probably just don't have everything listed and they can get everything. They can get you some good prices too. Let them know you check out AZ. The owner of Group5 is on here (e36341hp). The project A4 on the site is his girl's.
