The red light on the dash that indicates that the parking brake is on blinks when I drive and beeps three times. The parking brake is completely off. I don't know what it means, and I don't want to suddenly be without brakes on the freeway or somethin. Anybody know whats up?

I've for the same problem right now in my 99 1.8t. Had my pads checked, my mechanic cleared the error in the ABS computer via VAG and it went off again a day later. He recommended I take it to the stealership, may be a problem with the computer?

Before I sink a paycheck into the stealership's pocket, has anyone here resolved this issues yet? I've seen other complaints on the boards before, but just vague ideas on what it "might" be.

I'm driving with my ABS light on, and my brake light flashing.

The dealership said it was a faulty ABS control module, but I'm not gonna fix it. It just means I don't have ABS, which is ok by me.

It'll cost in the neighborhood of $1000, and my aftermarket warranty won't cover it.

Alright, don't what made me think of this, but I check my power steering fluid, and it was REAL low, topped it off and no more blinking Brake light. I have no idea why the brake light blinks for low power steering, but its off now.

theres no resevoir for ps fluid, its all contained on the pump on the front of the engine. just untwist the cap and add.

given they said it could be the abs module, its possible that after you changed your pads, someone pushed the pistons into the calipers, which forces dirty fluid through the abs module. this is known to cause problems and possible module failure.

but if it is power steering fluid, i have no idea why it would come on after a brake job

so do you mean that i can still clean it and solve the problem or it's something that will cost permenant harm and the module has to be prepared?

Alright, I was mistaken. While the light did go out when I filled my power steering, it came back on later that night.

In order to "do" a brake job you have to push the piston into the caliper. It's a 'must do' not an oooops, they shouldn't have done that.
Depending on your mileage it probably wouldn't hurt for you all to flush your brake fluid and see if that helps. It should be done every so often anyway.

I'm thinking it must be the level sensor on the brake resevoir. I unplugged it and kinda wiggled it around a little, and now the light is off.

FYI- I did my front brakes nearly 7 months ago, so I don't think it came on because of this.

no, your not supposed to force fluid back into the module, you are supposed to disconnect the lines first to prevent that, most dont and they are lucky.

on a true brake job, like i was taught in school, you disconnect the lines, flush the fluid, change the pads, push in the calipers, and turn the rotors, then measure for runout. not just change the pads.

ive never done it incorrectly and messed up a module, but my teacher at school has seen it and said the person had to buy a new module. this is just one experience, and doesnt mean if it happened to you, you couldnt fix it.

but in reality, with this many people sharing the problem, this is probably not the cause.
