Price check on timing belt service

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tracked down this import shop in Austin that looks really solid. They primarily work on Porsches and Audis. Here is what they will replace for $900:

    Tensioner
    Tensioner Roller
    Idle Roller
    Timing Belt
    Water pump
    Crank shaft seals
    Some other seals
    Snub mount
    Everything relubricated, all fluids
    All OEM parts

And I am sure that I can get them to throw in the fan switch.

What do you guys think? I know that I have heard of some cheaper jobs, but this seems pretty good.

sounds like a pretty good price. I believe average is about 1000. You should figure it will take a good shop between 4 and 6 hours, plus about 400 for those parts listed

Im gettin mine done here in SoCal for $700. Which is a good price for here. $900 sounds resonable from what Ive heard around the country.

The price sounds ok, I had mine done about a month ago, the original quote was for $750, but I ended up buying the parts myself and had them do the work and ended up saving about 100 bucks. The shop is also very specialized in European cars. The owner used to work for Audi, then opened his own shop, so needless to say they are very good with Audis. Maybe your shop would let you do the same?

I work at a VW dealer and I'll be doing mine soon. It'll be around $600. So $700 sounds good.

Just buy the timing belt kit from ecstuning.com, it comes with everything, then have somebody do it for you, the whole kit is like $249.

I thought about doing it, but I just don't have the time. I'm on the short list for a promotion, so my time is better spent at work then in the garage.

My mechanic did mine for $240. I bought the TB kit from Blaufergnugen (sp?). Saved ALOT of money - my dealer wanted $880 for it.

That's a lotta stuff being done to you car for $900. Good deal!

BTW, while they're in there, why don't you buy an APR or PureMS snub mount and put that in. It will make your car feel a lot better, as the stock one is kinda doo-doo (are you replacing the stock one with a new stock one?)
