Cargo Cover keeps popping loose

I have a 2003 B6 Avant. The cargo cover seems to keep popping out of the slots at the end of the cargo area (when fully extended)?

Does anyone have this same problem and if so do you have any fixes for it?

same car, no problems like that here. That thing is actually quite hard to pop out on mine.

Ive had that happen a couple times when it wasnt in the slot all the way, my fix was to stop using the cover

Happened to me once. My solution was exactly the same. I dont have a need to cover anything up back there anyways.

I had the same problem
but if you put that in slot and dun have anything pushing the cover, it should be fine

Mine never seems too secure, but it does stay put. Make sure that the toolkit and the jack are in their proper places. When I was cleaning the other night I had problems closing that cover because I had moved things around.

I have the same problem all the time. If I hit a little bump, or take a sharp turn the damn thing pops out. Pisses me off

i have that problem too and tried to get it fixed under warranty. However audi denied the claim because they said my car was lowered.

mine does the same. I am going to try and wrap the ends in some kind of rubber for some extra grip.

I tried that twiceand it still pops out. The problem is that the groove that the cargo liner ends go into aren't deep enough.

I'll admit that mine does the same thing. If I have it extended, it'll retract if I hit a decent dip at any sort of speed. No problems ever when flying on the freeway.

What is this fix you refer to?

Same thing happens to me sometimes. Usually when going over a bump or something. Scares the shit outta you if you're not expecting it (and why would you be). I like having the cover closed, but it gets annoying. I've thought about using some plasti dip or something on the ends to give it some grip, but it sounds like that's been tried already.

Make sure the cargo cover trim/holder itself is engaged all the way in its rails at the back of the seats. Not saying it will totally take care of the issue, but it does help.

I use some velcro to keep mine in place.

figure I can better preserve it in the garage and free up a few inches of cargo space

^ You make a good point Perkins. I take it out when I need extra space. I have a crate for my dog, and it won't fit at certain angles with the cargo cover in.

Happens to me as well....

I wonder if making the groove deeper with a dremmel will work ?

What I have noticed, is when I have the cargo area FULL...so that it is packed underneath the cover, it will not slip out.

I looked into it...for me what is happening is, that last part of the cover (Which is pre-folded)...will fold down slightly on a bump, and then BAMM... it causes the whole thing to come loose.

(try this on your car : open the trunk... put the cover properly into the groove, then press down on the rear part of the cover an see what happens)

Mine used to do it, but my bigger problem was the awful creaking noise it made. I cut some small strips of felt, with a sticky backing, and wrapped it around the end pegs. Now it fits more snug and doesn't make any noise. No popping out since either.

^ Sounds to me that that may be the best way to go. Use something - felt, rubber, etc., to cover the ends so that it doesn't move as much in the slots.

Yep I did the same thing on my previous 03 Avant...

On the end pieces that go into the slot, I stuck on the soft part of a velcro strip on each end.
This gave it a better grip in there, and I never had any problem after that...

That's just like what I've done with mine, works real good and stops the cover from making noise too.

Exact same thing happens in my 2002, it's really annoying. The cover is pretty noisy too.

edit: I'm gonna try the 'wrap it in the soft half of the Velcro straps' trick.

^^^^one other possible issue is just how much that thing weighs. The B7 cover feels like it weighs at least as much as an overweight horse jockey!

Fortunately, it's super easy. Put both seats down, then pull the entire piece towards the passenger side. Voila! It's on a little track on the back of the seats.

Just do one full wrap end to end of some pile/soft velcro. Don't double it up... I did end up putting some of the hook part of the velcro in the slot the cover post locks into. This may not be needed and I just used a 1/4" section of it or so.

yeah on full wrap, works awsome! put 300+ miles on the car yesterday and didnt pop loose once. and drove thru the rough roads of the poconos too!

Audi Parts has a kit consisting of a pair of rubber blocks that fit into the slots for the cargo cover, and stops the cover from popping out. I don't know the PN right off hand, but it's a quick, easy engineered fix. My cover has not popped out eversince I installed the little blocks.
