    Another heroic loss...

...for the Audi family. 2 days ago South Jersey was overwhelmed by a rainstorm that would last from the morning well throughout to about 7-8pm. At approximately 5:30pm I was driving in my '93 Toyota Camry as my friend followed in his 2003 Audi A4 3.0. We come to a lake in the road and proceed to follow a fellow driver through it. All cars had passed through unharmed until I received a phone call about 30 seconds later. The Audi was down and out for the count.

I talked to my friend today and he tells me the engine got flooded and the consequence is a new engine. Damage costs, he claims, are about $25k

Well I was leading and the only reason why we took this route is because 1) Cooper, like usual, was backed up all the way past my neighborhood entrance (maybe like 1/4 mile to the light at 73) and 2) there was a car ahead of me (a sedan, maybe a Mercury) which drove right through without a problem.

So I thought, why not its not THAT deep. I think my friend just drove too fast thru it and got some bad water in there. Situation could've been avoided but that would mean having to drive even further down 73 and I was trying to avoid highways due to the lack of visibility.

I don't know about the insurance or flood warrenty but it was leased and he says the damage is so bad they classified it as totalled. He says its being taken to the junkyard so that's the end of it.

But honestly I thought the driving was real fun that day and I have NO CLUE how my beat up camry pwned those puddles and the a4 died out. That car never ceases to amaze me.

Here's my plan....keep the car for the dirty work and get a nice hrmm....a nice S4 maybe?...for me to baby completely.

    Indeed a loss.

no matter what you have to keep the camry. the car gets great gas milage, has low insurance rates, is exceptionaly simple to work on, and i swear it's made of organic metal. i have beaten on mine repeatedly in the past, taken it off-roading (level b service road ), auto-x, snow, water, grass... wherever, it gets through it all. then i just let it sit overnight, and in the morning it always has sounded brand new. granted it isn't the most powerful thing in the world, but with a little bit of skilled driving it definitly gets where it needs to go.

We get unreal amounts of rain and flooding down here in TX. NEVER try to run a road under water. It is very decieving how deep it is, plus there is no way to tell that road underneath has not flooded out or has major pot holes.
