Well, hard to say really. It's a big decision b/c you want something that you feel totally comfortable on, especially since your going to be going high speeds. Go to bertts and just try out the bikes, see if it feels like its part of you body. For a beginner bike I wouldn't recommend any type of street bike, however it seems to be the thing to do since street bikes are the cool thing to have these last couple years. My cousin jumped on a 02 suzuki gsxr 600 for his first bike believe it or not. he has gone down a total of 2 times, but at no fault of his own but others not seeing him. If I were you I'd go to a local Community college and get your M license permit and take the classes, its extremely helpful and you can just go and take the dmv test when your ready. So just go try out some bikes, I doubt you'll like the ninja's or any bike with that type of posture position. Try out the bigger names, gsxr, yamaha r series, honda etc. I am pretty sure they have pre-owned bikes at Bertts too. So just go see what you like, I would recommend some sort of smaller, less powerful naked bike, over jumping on a street bike, but its your perogative. Don't jump into it b/c if you pick a bike that your not comfortable with your in trouble on the road. Make a couple visits to Bertts, ask people there who are also looking into bikes, and do your research like you would do a car, or ecu tuner chip. But the biggest thing I recommend for beginners is to not half ass the leathers and helmet quality. Go big and by the best b/c it is your ass on the line. My cousin's 500 dollar Shoei helmet saved his life. Ride safe, and defensive, you'll learn to scan a lot better and be more aware of whats around you, and if your a show off bike riding is not for you b/c you'll kill youself. hope some of this helps.
