    Are Coilpacks interchangable?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Soo.. I have a AMD 1.8t engine code, and i have an extra TT 225 head which was an AMU engine code..

My car has the circular coilpacks that just pop out, where as the TT's have the "older" square CP's that get bolted down to the valve cover..

    My reasoning for this:

When the time comes for me to install my TT cams, i want to swap valve covers (basically, i want to get the TT cover Powerdercoated and installed on my car) so there is no down time..

    My question is this:

Can i get away with using the "older" style CP's on my 03?

The TT head that i have was from a 01' TT225...

    Here are pics:

What i have on my car now:

Hmmm interesting. Will that TT head just bolt on? In any case I'd imagine you'd have to take apart the cams anyways so you can get the cam gears under the belt.

Naw, i dont think they are.. I think the TT block is based off of the Vw 1.8t block, which might have different coolant veins etc than the Audi..

older coilpacks . . . a risk in my opinion. can't you just swap the cams and not the entire head?

I was using a TT225 coilpack for over a month when one of my coilpacks said good bye last year. No problems at all. I still carry it in the trunk in the event one of the coilpacks fails in the middle of nowhere.

If you want, I can check the part # of this coilpack.

Of course i can.. I was just seeing if i could powerdercoat the TT valve cover before i do the install, that way i dont have to wait to have the valve cover thats on the car to get PC'ed..

Hence this whole post about swapping coilpacks

So you replaced a "pop on CP" (the first pic in my post) with a square one bolt on kind?

My brother has a 03 GTI, which is identical to the 180hp TT. When I blew my coils (again) last week, he was kind enough to loan me his off his GTI, and it worked flawlessly. Exact same part numbers actually, not sure about the 225TT, but should be identical as well.

no need to change the valve cover. I changed the coil packs because of the massive amount failures of Bremi coil packs , the hitachi made coil packs i have never heard of any failures
