I alway wondered why does a car ecu differ from yr to yr but same style body and motor? I can understand if minor components change and the need change ecu. But does this mean the ecu for new models better. Kinda stupid question just alway wondered.

Honestly it's Audi's way of keeping prying eyes in check. I've been told that they'll move blocks of data around and not use some that were previously used before. They increase the encryption as well. Sometimes they do refine the programming a bit but IMO they do it to keep outsiders in check

I wonder what they have to hide. Just I remember coming from my 300zx. I used to think that audi didn't have to many options for mods. I have people still ask me about modding and if my car is fast.

not hiding more like making it more difficult for aftermarket tuners to tune w/ ECU.

Yeah, I wonder who there target market is. I mean a factory turbo engine with a lot potential. I just remember hearing how audi kick butt in races but never saw anyone with one. You know it funny I get a lot of people who ask about how audi is now of dayz. (mostly people who knew somebody with audi when they had engine prob i guess, and alot or volvo/saab owner looking to get new car) I guess word mouth is important, and we are examples to future buyers, but still just AoA would help out. Just love my car. =)

Think of it like microsoft software, after every year there applying the equivalent of software patches. I'm sure throughout the year the engineers at Audi are looking and finding ways to improve the ECU programming. Sometime they even take functionality away. For example a 2002 A4 can be programmed with the VAG software to run foglights without headlights, 2003 and above can't do that.

true, but does that mean the 02 not as good?
you know what I mean. It just seem like 02 had all the options to be vagged. But I'm sure they upgrade ECu since but how.
