would it be possible to put the same size rotors and calipers that are on the front of a B5 on the back? The stock rear rotors and calipers look so dinky on the b5. I also dont have the cash right now for brembos, sooooo, no need to get into that.

if you already have the wheels try it out yourself. Take one of the fronts off and see if it works with the back

Yes - with additional equipment. Being as the wheels are the same size, any brake package that fits the front will fit the back. You should be able to use the same caliper (think that they are the same), but you need a caliper carrier to move it further out to fit the larger rotor.

If you are going to do this, might as well do it right. You can get a brake package from ECS Tuning that includes TT caliper carriers, A8 rotor eleviated and cross drill, and pads for roughly $500. You can then use the old carriers from the front and move them to the back.

However, do you really need brakes in the back at all? They look wimpy, but that is because you don't really need them. Beef up the front and you'll have no complaints.

The front caliper is an ATE with a large single piston.

The rear caliper is a Teves with a much smaller piston and a much smaller pad area. You'd need a new caliper to get enough pad area to make the upgrade worth while. Then you'd have to figure out a way to get the e-brake to work again.

How is the E-Brake going to be affected? Will it even?

The E brake would no longer work if you did this.

Installing a 288mm rotor (stock size of front) in the rear of your Audi vs the 245 stock rear would greatly change your brake bias and also cause handling issues. To large of a rear braker and it becomes easy to lock up the rears and thus negate any benefits. For comparinson the B5/S4 and current A6 all use 255/256mm rears. You could go to the 269mm rear on the pre-03 A8 but then you'd need new calipers since the rotor is 20mm wide & vented vs stock 10mm solid. Most people only upgrade their rears if they track their car. Otherwise a stock 12.1 BBK like the ones ECS and PureMS sell for the front are more than enough especially if coupled with quality pads for the rear. In fact doing the A8 269 rear upgrade can cost you more than the front BBK, sicne you'll need new calipers from an S4, which aren't cheap.
Friends don't let friends drive stock.
