pricing for spring install in Bay Area

Iam getting a set of the H&R sport springs for my 04 1.8t Q however the install quotes from local shops have been ridiculous. There was a thread recently for socal install where someone got quoted 450-500 for the springs, install and alignment while i got quoted 700!!! just for install at New Dimensions. DSR quoted me 350 just for the install and an extra 100 for alignment. There has got to be a better deal out there somewhere, anyone?

if you're in the south bay, go to Exact Motorsports in milpitas by great mall. i've always gotten good prices and treatment from them, and they know what they're doing too... they're more of an import speed shop, but they do all the work on their MBZ and their sponsored M3 themselves, so i think that counts for something. $240 is probably the most you'll be charged there. 1.8TitoRey and myself did our B5 suspensions there, and have not had any problems.

in fact, i might bring in my next springs/shocks over there to have them install it on my '04 (unless i can get it done at saturnine's since i have neither the tools nor the knowledge to do it myself)

thanks for the info but if its going to cost this much to install i might as well wait till i get shocks as well so i ma not paying twice, and instead chip it first

You can get a free alignment at your dealer, under warranty you can have 1 a year. I did that last week, had the springs installed and then the alignment done for free at the dealer!

Emotion Garage in Milpitas will do it for $280. In fact, we do all A4 suspension installs (coilovers,springs/struts, or just springs) for $280. Just call us to set up an appointment (408)262-3560 just ask for MatT~ which is I. Sorry we only do suspension install, no alignment here.

or just the install labor?

i was quoted 271 for H&R springs, 200 for the install, and 40 for mounting and balancing 4 tires and rims and alignment.

so total of like 511...

did i do my math right?

It's actually only 280 for the labor because the suspension is more complicated on Audi's. for mounting and balancing it really depends on the machines that the shop uses. If they are using quality machines like what we are using, when no metal ever touches your wheels, everything is plastic coated then $40 is a good deal. We usually charge $15 per tire for new wheels and new tires.

what about 271 for the parts themselves?

they told me that they are H&R springs and H&R only makes one type of spring for the A4. there isnt a differntiation like the sport or race springs that neuspeed makes.

is 271 reasonable?

My mechanic can do it for you for a fairly decent price (most likely it'll be cheaper than a shop) which also includes alignment. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you his contact info.
