    Paying for some turbos...advice

I'm buying a set of new RS4 turbo's & intercoolers from someone in Europe. He wants to use Western Union for the wire transfer, now I'm sure I've read a few of you advising people against using this method of transfer.

What are the pitfalls? He can't use Paypal as his country isn't on the list.....

    Many thanks guys

I personally wouldn't do it that way.

Where's your protection from this guy scamming you? At least with Paypal, there's a small level of protection. Western Union is only a way of showing that you sent money to someone and they got it.

Isn't there some other way? Perhaps a personal check? Then you have a mailing address for this guy and maybe some info on where he deposited the money when your returned check arrives.

my friend sent money via western union to some guy in romania once for a digital camera...turned out that guy was a frequent scam artist who tricks people into sending money this way, and then he runs with the cash.

i would never send money to some random guy in a different continent...unless MAYBE if he was a reputable AZ member ;)

Mark, I would not do it. If he's an honest person, then he should not object to other payment methods. Western Union is the number one way to get scammed. And you'll have no recourse.

Cheers all. I wrote back and said I'll do it via bank transfer only, and I've asked for his address and bank details..... but to be honest I'm going off the whole idea fast.

CAN YOU SAY FRAUD>>>>>>>>GUYS this method of payment should only be used for sending money to friends and family members. if you want to realize he is a fraud tell him this. just tell him you cant afford the 100 or 200 western union charges to send the money. and if he offers to cover it or deduct it from the amount of money you owe him he is a fraud. trust me.
