The SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Series will be waking up the wine country at the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma, July 16-18, 2004 . The World Challenge Touring Car Series consists of highly modified sport compact cars, BMW, Audi, Mazda, Acura, Ford, and Nissan, featuring drivers from around the world.
Erickson Motorsports has just completed the construction of the Volkswagen Bay Area Dealer Add Association sponsored VW Golf GTI VR6 and will put it to the test this weekend at Infineon Raceway (formerly Sears Point) in Sonoma, California. The Grand Prix of Sonoma is a double event for the Touring Cars. The weekend schedule will include race 1 on Saturday and race 2 to follow after the American Le Mans race on Sunday.
Brett Erickson, owner of Erickson Motorsports, will be taking the wheel of the VW Golf 2.8 liter 6-cylinder power plant in hopes of giving Volkswagen attention and notoriety at this level of competition.
“I have always been a true blue Volkswagen fan, as long as I can remember. To be able to take my first professional green flag and represent Volkswagen at the same time will be the realization of a life-long dream,” said Erickson. Brett has been directly involved in the fabrication, engineering, and all other details that went into this program during its two years from conception to completion.
