    34k oil pump failure

A friend of myne has a 2002 A4 1.8 Q Auto and he drives his car pretty hard. a few weeks ago he was coming back from the Jearsey shore when his car overheated due to his oil pump giving out. Audi had to replace the pump, cylander linings, turbo and i forget what else. But my worry is his car was stock, I know have a chip and exhaust. his car had 34,000 miles and iam going to be tracking myne around 33,000 miles, should i worry about oil pump failure? has it happend to anyone else? Is this common among 1.8s or B5 1.8s? or is it just freak, I mean i don't mind if my pump goes cause in a way i get a rebuilt engine, but i would rather it not happen, the hassel of all that would be a pain in the a**. so let me know what you know!

Ive heard of one other person who has this problem..

Never heard of it on a B5 1.8t, or any B5 car for that matter..

Sheesh... kinda makes me want to stay stock for awhile. But my question is how would a chip play into the fuel or oil pump. Is there any way to connect having a chip with causing oil pump or fuel pump failure. Or for that matter, having a turbo?

Do you think tracking the car could tax the pump to point of failure? I know tracking is tough on a car but i am rather worried about this, even though if my pump fails at the track my friend has a trailer that he could trailer it home on.

this happend to me on my 02 audi 1.8tqm... and it happend at abt 21k.. except my motor seiezed because of it..took audi 5 and 1/2 weeks to get the problem solved.. hehe lets just say i'm now driving the 04 u/s 1.8tq 6m and loving it.. oh did i mention the car siezed up on my 21st b-day coming home form atlantic city.. ya it was a sh!tty birthday.. 21st b-day none-the-less.. but i ended up gettin a nice b-day present lol..

audi will take care of u if anything goes wrong they always do.. just don't let them know abt that chip.. i only had a hyperboost bpv and evo intake.. and they tried to void my warrenty.. just don't take any sh1t from them.. hold ur ground and u'll break em down..

don't be worried ur straight... or are u? =D

a scary common problem so it seems.

from what I have read, if you get a yellow oil light then you have low oil. if it is red then that means low pressure.

it's always in the back of my head.

just a shot in the dark, but could the bigger oil filters on the 04´s be Audi´s way of trying to help this problem? Just asking. Or am I totally lost?

    probably not.

a larger filter won't stop a oil pump from failing. it is purely mechanical and drives from the engines' rotation. a larger filter wouldn't stop it from going ka-put.

a larger filter would reduce potential turbo failures due to sludge build-up and adds more volume of oil.

A4turbo interesting because thats were it happend with my friend. Well i guess iam just gona have to wait and see, seems like a common problem with the car. only thing iam hopeing for is that if this pump fails it isn't while in travel from PA to NH, i do that trip a lot and i would be pist if i got stuck somwhere inbetween. I think it be worth paying a towing company to take my Car back to my Dealer where I know it will get taken care of regardelss of mods.

I just rolled over 30k and have to take my car in for the service interval. I have to remove my injectors and software today so ECU power fault codes will be gone by then. Fun stuff.

    sometimes I wonder why I modified my car . . . I need an S4.
