    HID question. 5300 or 6K?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know the 5300 will have more lumens, but just how much more noticeable is it over a 6K?

Also, is the 6K blue-ish tint color very noticeable over the 5300 white? I just want a little bit of blue, but not at the expense of significant loss of lighting. Regardless I'm sure they will be a major bump up from my halogens, but just want to put my $$ in the right direction.

Pic comparisons would be great if someone has 5300 vs 6000 HID's.

yeah go with 4300K. It still blue because the blue from our audi come from projector, not from the bulb.

Click on the link in my signiture to see some picture of 4300K. They are still blue.

I have CATZ dyed bulb 5500k HID.

I really like the look of it. A sharp whiteish-purple.

They will whiten up more then in my pic because they were warming up.

With 35W ballasts, I wouldn't recommend getting anything higher than 5400K. I have the SPP 50W ballasts and 5400K and they're still pretty blue. I wouldn't mind going with 6000K though.

    Light output starts getting low.

    Stock is around 4300K.

I have 5100K and they're much "bluer" than my old stock 4300 bulbs. I personally wouldn't want anything higher, but it's all personal preference. They start getting very blue, then purple, then almost green if you go too high (or with a cheap bulb, same effect).

If u have stock 35W ballasts, the higher K u go dont give you more light on the road, just color difference. If u upgrade to 50W ballasts, they are pretty bright with like 6000K.

I just have stock e-codes with xenon, so thats like 4300K, want more light on the road, but costs alot to upgrade to 50W ballasts~ Post some pics up after u decide which one u get ~

The amount of light output/brightness is based on actual lumens rating of a bulb regardless on temperature (kelvin)of the bulb.

The 4300k bulbs put out a lumen rating of about 2800 lumen whereas my 8000k puts out 3200 lumen. There definately is a difference in light output.

I got my bulbs with a full HID kit from a place thats no longer in business.. brand new Catz kit (very good name and very good quality) for like 350 bucks, ballasts, bulbs, wiring...all plug and play.

If you want to try to contact catz or a distributer to get just the bulbs they are dyed and called " aqua blue 5500k."
